: Paint Opinions
2-Elkys 04-12-2004, 05:05 PM I have a 71 Custom with a cowl hood that is the body shop right now.
I am replacing ALL chrome and i would like some of ya'lls opinions on a paint color or scheme. It has black and tan interior. Eventually all black.
All i know right now is NO ORANGE!
all suggestions appreciated.
I am leaning toward Flame Red with the black stripes on the hood and a black grill. Like the SS'S had. There will be no SS emblems not trying to make a clone.
I wish I knew how to post a pic from my hard drive. I've got a pic of a Blue and White Elky that is sweat.
86camino 04-13-2004, 04:49 PM black is always a good choice on that year. when done right and polished enough it will look great and shine deep. 8)
Charcoal grey or a gun metal grey....scweeet!
78 Elky 04-13-2004, 11:00 PM I think a deep burgundy color would look good and match your interior pretty well.
chevydude 04-14-2004, 03:30 PM How about if you go with the flame red you mentioned, but instead of black stripes on the hood maybe some "ghost" stripes in a couple shades darker (or lighter) of the same red ?
Seen a 71 Chevelle that was painted a brite yellow w/the ghost type SS stripes in another shade. Looked pretty cool. I kinda liked the subtle contrast (as opposed to say yellow with black stripes).
Mrapii 04-14-2004, 04:21 PM I'm partial to black with white or silver stripes.
a73elkyss 04-14-2004, 06:38 PM Well Bruce, I guess asking this question can really open a can of worms. But anyway, I'm pretty partial to the '72 Mohave Gold Metalic upper body, Argent silver for lower body. Throw a black stencil stripe on the cowl hood and top it off with a nice black vinyl roof.
<---------------
I have no idea where I came up with this combination
80elcamino 04-14-2004, 07:20 PM I forgot if you said what color your elky is now but i bet that a flat (primer) black would look nice on just the hood.
~see if you can get a pic posted so we know what we're working with :-D
Rob Kozak 04-16-2004, 03:22 PM 2004 Red that is on the Trail Blazers. It is a three stage paint that can be used like a candy. You can add ghost images to your scheme such as ss stripes or what ever you wish. It is a great lower cost alternative to candy paints.
AHSOM70 04-16-2004, 05:09 PM One thought since you like red- Check out 1969 Chevy Garnet Red
Its a darker red- but not maroon. Looks REAL nice with black or white stripes- My girlfriends camaro is supposed to be that color and i've done some research and found pics of it- looks killer, and just a little different than every other "Arrest me red" shade.
Also maybe consider 69 side stripes instead of hood stripes (like everyone else has) Super Chevy did a buildup of a 71 elky a few years ago- used the 69 side stripe and looked awesome.
Other color combo's that i like:
Black/white Hood stripes
White/Black or Red Hood stripes
Gunmetal Mettalic Grey w/ Ghost stripes
Bright blue metallic w/ white stripes or Ghost stripes
Camino85LS 04-17-2004, 03:26 PM I'm partial to black with white or silver stripes.
Way to go. I got a 2-tone Black n Silver. SWEEET! I wish i knew how to upload or id put it on here... but its silver on top, black in the middle of the car, and silver on bottom. nothing better!
80elcamino 04-17-2004, 06:15 PM You know. There are many (too many) posts about "it's too hard to post pics" . I think we need a moderator to step up and volunteer to post pics for these people. If you could email your pics the moderator could use irfan view to batch process them and then upload them.
~any one game?
Mrapii 04-17-2004, 10:14 PM Hey the moderator isn't getting paid. I and everyone else who participates in this forum has learned to do the necessary things. It's just not that hard.
80elcamino 04-18-2004, 05:14 AM OK, it was just a thought and suggestion.
:-)
joeblow 04-19-2004, 09:06 PM I'm with you Aaron. The picture posting process is likely too complicated for a good majority of the members to understand. It seems to post a picture, you must have a website to upload it from. And while ElCamino Central does provide free webspace, that is a several step process. [First sign up for the webspace, then upload pictures there, and finally use the "insert image" icon when using the message boards.]
I do not expect the moderators to have the time to assist everyone in uploading images. That would be an inordinate burden.
Several of us *have* figured the process out, but I wouldn't say all of us have.
Mrapii 04-19-2004, 09:34 PM Technically you don't need a Website to upload pictures. Put the picture in the Member's Gallery and then upload it from there. A little cumberson bit it works.
