Ok guy's time for some questions. I have a damaged dash in my truck(like most). I have looked for a while to find a good dash with no luck. I did purchase a 79 malibu wagon for a parts car (I have to gloat I got it for $50 bucks) the dash is just as bad, but my Dad(who has owned an upholstery shop for like 25 years) told me to "just fix it". I have looked at alot of options and the one I like the best is fiberglass the whole thing. I don't know if it will work but it's worth a shot right? Has any one else ever tried something like this? The next question I have is where can I find door sills, roof sills and felt window strips? Every place I have looked wants like $250.00 or more and my local supply shop has make a kit rolls but thats kinda cheap. Any help would be great. 8)

Has anyone tried this? I don't want to waste my time if it won't work.

I'm right there with ya buddy! I've got a 76' Elky that the dash is just completely torn up in I've never seend cracks so bad. I was considering the fiberglassing alternative as well, it would allow me to cutomize the dash cluster to employ a more informative set of guages. But I would rather just find a suitable replacement. Keep me posted and I'll do the same.

have either one of you looked for a dash cover?
I had one on a Mustang that fit perfect and looked brand new!

I'll second the idea of a dash cap, i've heard some good things about them and that they look pretty good if you take your time while installing and better results if you take the dash out and install it instead of doing it in the car.

Guys,
The Full dash cap IS the way to go.. If you want to see one in action, take a look at my interior pics in "My Witness" photo album. My dash was so so before, and in just a few hours, I had a brand new looking dash for a fraction of the cost. Take it from one who knows, get the Full cap type even though they have the half cap type, the half cap really doesn't come out looking that good. They are ABS plastic and can be either dyed or if you dare painted with automotive base/clear paint systems.
One word of advise, since this cap will resolve permanently the age old cracking dash problem, the only problem to concern yourselves with is making sure the finish is right. Use a premium quality bonding clear like Bulldog adhesion promoter before applying your color coats, and always clear coat your finish in the gloss of your liking. I prefer a satin since it is close to the OEM sheen on most interior panels.
These caps are posted in auction on Ebay often, and can be nabbed for around 85 beans, if you bid correctly. Also if you choose to dye, spend the extra beans and use DuPont brand, it is by far the best finish for interior work, and the color matching/tinting is far superior to SEM and others.
And above all, stay away from the rattle can finishes, they will leave you high and dry literally, and will make for a poor looking finished piece.
Hope this helps!
