Ok now this is very crazy but funny. When I bought my Elky it did not come with the factory cut ignition key you know the one that has GM stamped on the side. Anyway I just bought a clunker of a 79 Elcamino SS. Now this car is going to be my parts car. No motor just sittin there. Well what I was thinking of doing is taking off the piece that you put your key to start it off of the SS and putting it on my 79 Elky. I just wana know how I go about doing that. If I have to pull the steering wheel off good cause Iam changing it anyway. I just need to know how I can get it off. So if anyone knows please help.
Sorry this was so long but you have to have a backround.

The GM service manual has answers for all these kinds of questions. It is hard to work on these cars without one. It is invaluable.

I second that. You should get a GM Service Manual. If that ends up being too rich for your blood, get a Chilton. They've come a long ways since their basic generalized manuals of many years ago.

Here's an article I wrote about tightening up the steering column on 5th gens:

Part of the procedure involves removing and replacing the ignition lock cylinder. Take a look and see if this will help. Also, getting a manual for your car is highly recommended, you can usually find them on ebay.

There is a good how-to for fixing a loose tilt column on Ray Bucks site. It describes how to remove the lock cylinder too.
