Anyone know of a good thread sealer for intake manifolds and water pump? When I put in my new radiator I got rid of the heater hoses and put 2 plugs on the intake manifold and 1 on the water pump and used some thread tape. Worked for a little bit but now they are leaking and can't really find any good thread sealer to stop the leaking. The stuff I have found says to not use in the presence of heat. Any suggestions?

Just what I was working on today and also used the thread tape first but did not stop and the guy that I know at the auto store said this is what I needed brad name Permatex (gasket Maker) Ultra Black oem Hi-Temp rtv silicone I bought a very small tupe net wt. 0.5 oz that was around $2.62 and it worked veery well for me today. Now back to the dash again tomorrow. Michael

Go to any home improvement store that sells plumbing supplies and get a can of Rector Seal for pipe threads. Works on hot or cold pipe threads. BTW I am a retired plumber and used this stuff by the case. You can use Teflon Tape but it sounds as tho you didn't use enough.:poke:

can't you put that on the wrong way too. At least that looks like what we did, or my buddy did. I'm still learning so got what I posted just a second ago.

If you put Teflon Tape on the wrong way it will unravel as you tighten the nipple/plug so you will know when this happens:beer:

I put it on right and thought I used plenty but it only worked for about 2 weeks. So I don't know but I will try those things out tomorrow if I get a chance.

Try permatex High tack. it comes in a plastic or metal can and is applied with a brush... its black looking and smells bad, but it works really well. and for gaskets it works wonders, especially if you have to hold a gasket in place and dont have the extra hand to do so. apply it and let it dry till its tacky and sticky.

one other thing you might try is Permatex Ultra copper. it comes ina toothpaste tube container... its made to take high heat and i use it on everything.... including exhaust leaks for headders etc.
