Shot the paint today. Didn't shoot it the "Sunburst Copper" (Burnt Orange Met) like I wanted. I wanted that color but at $400! a gallon it didn't fit my budget. :( So, I did the next best thing. I bought 2 gallons of "cheaper" paint and mixed to try to get something similar. If something happens I have to reshoot the whole truck since it's a custom mix but that'd just be an excuse to change the color anyway. I don't have a clue what color this is as it seems to change color depending on what angle you look at it. I mixed 3/4 Sienna Met and 1/4 Silver.
Anyway, I updated my album:
The Diablo Wannabe Album (http://www.necoa.org/modules.php?set_albumName=84-Diablo-wanna-be&op=modload&name=Gallery&file=index&include=view_album.php&page=1)
It has everything so far, start to present.
See ya

I like the color. But then again, I'm very partial to that shade of gold.....
Nice job. I'm sure when all the trim is on, it will look fantastic. Keep the pic's coming.

You know a72elky, it just might be close to that Mohave Gold (sp?). We'll find out tomorrow once it gets it's first taste of sunlight.
I did almost kill a man today. Walked into the booth "unannouced, but knowing someone was spraying" then trampled water practically stomping his feet. I was so stunned that someone who'd have the guts (or stupidity) to do it I just stood there with my mouth open, not knowing what to do. I do have some imperfections in the paint in the area he trampled but I can't be sure I can blame him. I do know he's planning on painting his vehicle soon...
Can't wait to get it buffed out and the trim in. Still need to never-dull the bumpers, bed rails etc. That's tomorrows project once I get her home. Friday is sanding.

Got it outside. Looks OK I guess. Still need to do some sanding & buffing to get a gloss and really see how well the little bit of body work needed turned out . Not bad for a cheapo paintjob. Also put my back tires on. Next week the front tires come in.
On a side not. I ordered the new bumper fillers from GMPARTSDIRECT.COM. I ordered on the evening of the 7th. They will be in on the 16th, missed the paint day by 2 days! :(

Do a wet sand or 2000 with a DA until its nice and smooth. Taks it back and re-shoot it with a clear Basemaker and some silver pearl, then re-shoot clear. Sand and re-clear and final sand to a smooth finish. The pearls in the paint and the Silver will complement each other and produce more of the transition effect you like. It will also change colors at night under artifical lights, like the street lights. The three extra coats of clear will add dimension to the final look so the paint will look deeper if sanded smooth between coats.
Just a thought. Looks like a good paint job. I like a more unconventional colors or unique paint schemes. But its a good looking job.

What brand paint did you end up going with? Was it BC/CC or single stage?? I'm back to sanding our project tonight. Trying not to get impatient at this stage. Another few days could make a lot of difference in the total projects appearance.
Yours looks good, what a sense of acomplishment!

I ended up going with WESTERN HI-Glo (budget division of Sherwin-Williams), got it for a little over half of what the price is on their .website (http://www.sherwin-automotive.com/products/show_product.cfm?product=10225&cat=144)
Supposed to be a single stage but we did a clear coat. I'm sure it'll buff out nice (as I've said before :) ) and I'm really eager to get this car on the road and complete. Of course now that it's looking decent we're thinking maybe it'll be good to do a engine and tranny rebuild as well, just to be safe.
I wish I would of had a few extra days to pittle with bodywork but there was an unexpected death in the family that set us back a little and my paint booth was rented for a specific day that I couldn't miss out on. Some of the body work is showing through so far but I keep telling myself I built it to be a real nice work truck that'll be a decent advertising piece.
So far I'm keeping in budget, which makes me very happy! I was just skimming through my old issues of Hot Rod and noticing all the old "budget rides" they built. This car has done well so far as it hasn't sent anyone to the hospital. I had an '67 Impala Sport Coupe in the 80's that was a regular Christine. That car sent many a person to the emergency room/first aid kit.

Very nice job - can't wait to see the final pix, when you're completed. The color should look great in the sunlight.
