Well, I will be pulling my engine and tranny out of my elkie, and am not sure about the future of it. I was talking to my neighbor about looking for another body for my engine/tranny and he told me he knew where there was a quote "lil car" that had a v-8 but the engine had been pulled. I went to the location he told me and there with no back tires hood up and engine tranny gone....was a Chevy California Edition Monza....well 500 bucks later it was mine.

Needless to say, I am going to spend about 2 or 3 months cleaning it up, replacing the rearend, and getting it ready to where all i gotta do is pull engie outta elkie and scoot over and drop it in Monza. I have been doing a ton of searching and the California edtion Monza was ..from what i can find...1975 ONLY and a hard find. Body is straight no rust, and car complete and not stripped..cept for engine/tranny. Couldn't pass ti up.

Back in the day I dated a girl with a 78 V8 Monza Spider, she had a bad habit of blowing the transmission in the thing, needless to say I got really good at doing trans swaps on it.

Cool find! My ex-brother-in-law had a Monza Spyder when he met my sister. Of course the car was still pretty new back then, still wore orginal paint all those years ago, I remember the decals were just starting to fade. His was a 76 (I think,) white, red, and blue.

I always thought they were cool.

If it is indeed what you have described, it is one of approximately 3,000 Chevy Monza's sent to California with the 350ci V8. The 350 was offered in California only, and for 1975 model year only. They are very desirable cars. You should join the V8H-body Forum (H-body being Chevy Vega/Monza and clones) here: V8 H-body Forum (http://pub52.ezboard.com/bv8hbodytalk). We currently have 1,345 members all around the world after just starting the group up about 1.5 years ago. Hope to see you around.

8O whoa i had forgotten all about monzas!! they came with 350s?!?! i thought those were those real little cheap(not trying to offend any monza owners) cars. if they are what i am thinking of they had a cool body to them, they were just small.

So did we all know only girls that owned these cars? lol

I also knew a girl that owned a '76 Buick version called the Skyhawk. As it only had the V6 what I remember most about her car was that it had a cool smoked glass Astroroof. The whole top above the driver/passenger was glass! Very nice ride. Now that I think about it, dam she had great legs! Thanks for the memories on that one! :P

I have helped build several v-8 Vegas & believe it or not, One of the best v-8 swaps you can do is droping one in a Z car. I helped on a 240z, a 280z & my favorite was a 280zx. Fun cars.

The Monza I found was the Town Coupe version, which makes me happy as hell since i don't like the fastback version. I am VERY exited about getting this lil MOnza going as my 350 in my elkie with 3.42 gears runs a 13.5 1/4 and the lil MOnza weighs HALF what my elkie weighs! I alreayd have my gotta get part list started so i can do some upgrades to my engine afore i put it in the elkie, not that it needs upgrades it only has 15k miles on it, but i figure electric water pump and stuff like that will gimmie more room in the MOnza, Oh and i bought a 8pt roll cage to put in the lil car.....no need to go all out death wish with this thing.

Most monza spyders came with 305's some with 267's. Both boat anchors. I would work on making the whole front end tilt up like a vette. That way you can tune it up without pulling the engine out every 25K..

My aunt had a 77 monza and even the 4 Banger in it looked cramped. By the way the other corporate cousin besides the skyhawk was the pontiac sunbird. Basically looked like a monza with a TA front end (without the air dam)

Actually, it was the 262 that was used in the Monza's. Along with the 305 and the rare 350's. Just a little FYI.

Sorry, 262 is right, even bigger boat anchor. 267 V8's a buick motor.
