Last one I put on, I used Gaskasynch. It made the job easy, no worries about the gasket moving when you set the manifold in place.

X2 on the gaska-cinch! I use the spray kind and do the whole head side of the gasket.
ditto with head gaskets.

I don't think it matters either way on coating the intake side, I use it on head side to hold it in place. On head gaskets I use it on both sides for the sealing properties tho. (I've never used the permatex stuff tho)

I installed a performer intake and Edel aluminum heads on my 396. I used permatex form-a-gasket on the intake gaskets. I used the liquid and just followed the directions with no problems.

If you ever decide to change the intake, or remove it for some reason, coating both sides of the gasket will leave some work for you, to clean up the parting surfaces. The gaskets will work dry for that matter, but some sealant around the water ports is insurance.
