Sounds like you're doin' the right thing keepin a lawyer involved! WAY too many people just take the check...and once they do that...deal's done. http://www.emotipad.com/newemoticons/Noooo.gif

Sorry to hear about your Elky! Remember Insurance Companys, yours or his, are not your friend...they're in business to make money off the premiums that we pay. They will ALWAYS try to pay out the least. A lawyer told me this...he's my friend...isn't he? :?

Insurance companies love to devalue older cars and write lowball checks, just to eliminate a "nuisance". Have you looked around for a replacement El Camino, that is actually for sale? Who wants a check that will cover little more than for parts to do a "do it yourself" repair job, or a pittance for a car that the insurance company sees as a total loss?
As far as I am concerned, the guy who hits my car, or his insurance company, can buy me a new El Camino, and I don't care if it costs them eight to ten grand on Ebay or whatever.

I am finding all documentation to shwo the value, despite what the little blue book says, This is war, They will loose theres an elky at stake! You don't smash one of the 584,1983 el camino choo choos and get away with it. You know it would be a kicker if the judge drove a elky, that would be too funny...

Book value is not of much consequence, if there are none for sale at the "book" price". Just look on Ebay, as the auctions end and see how crazy prices are for good ones. That is why I would say, don't write me a check, buy me a car. There is a dealer, Philip Schwartz in Oklahoma City, who specializes in top quality original El Camino's. He advertises on Ebay, but I think has a connection on this site also. Check and see what he has and note the prices. He can probably come close to what you have, but as they say, "It'll cost ya".
With physical injuries on the table, your bargaining position should be better.
Good luck,
Eric

Forget regular blue book Chances are your car isn't in it any more. Kelly makes another blue book that covers older vehicles. My 74's value showed up in one and it's just a classic with a 400. Your lawyer should have access to this as dealers and such usually don't have or won't buy them. That way they can lowball you and you have no recourse to argue about it.

I think its called: Kelly Blue Book - Collector and Vintage or something like that. Ask your lawyer he should know.

I have declared value classic car insurance. If anything happens to mine that's what it will cost my insurance company or anybody elses.
