ECC is the website forums that is run by a third party. NECOA is the club that El Camino owners{and non-owners are members of.

Google NECOA. You get nothing substantial. No address, No phone, nothing. Calendar guy sends all profits to NECOA. When I asked him where he sent it, no response. Wish I had info but I don't.

Lots of good, rational questions being asked in this thread. In order to bring everyone up to speed on who we are, how we got here, and where we go in the future, I am going to revise and consolidate important threads from our early days. This will be done over the next few days and hopefully will give everyone a better perspective on NECOA and ECC.

In the meantime, i am copying a post from Robert More of TX who launched ECC in 2002 before the merger with a rival website created by Dan Smith of TN, who founded the National El Camino Owners Association. (I succeeded Dan Smith as National Director in 2004 and Robert More sold ECC to its current owners over a year ago.) We will try to explain why and how the two entities merged, with El Camino Central becoming the internet-based home of NECOA. Here's the first bit of history for everyone while we dig up the rest of the story from the archives. Happy reading.

http://www.elcaminocentral.com/images/icons/icon1.gif About El Camino Central
El Camino Central is a database-driven, dynamic content, virtual community for Chevrolet El Camino owners and friends.

El Camino Central was founded early 1998 by Robert C. More to share his hobby and experince with El Caminos with others. After undergoing several designs, software changes, and formats, and negative reaction from a few other automotive forums expresing the overall lack of interest in an exclusive "El Camino" forum, he was about to give up and move on to other projects. It was not until September 10th, 2002, that El Camino Central gained it's first registered user, and co-founder, Rob Haggard, (Poltergeist). It is this reason we mark September 10th, 2002 as our official founding anniversary. The two Robs soon became brothers-in-arms and found much in common aside from our love of El Caminos. With Rob H's encouragement, assistance with design, administration, their combined posts and articles, El Camino Central soon became a popular site among El Camino owners and aficionados. We immediately gained a handful of seasoned and knowledgeable members ie., Ernie G. (87Elcamino (http://elcaminocentral.com/member.php?u=93)), Robin C. (Mrapii (http://elcaminocentral.com/member.php?u=2250)), Vernon E. (ElkyPete (http://elcaminocentral.com/member.php?u=403)), Peter Brown (87SS (http://elcaminocentral.com/member.php?u=10)), and many many others who devoted extensive time and effort to begin and maintain the helpful and courteous tradition which has made the site famous worldwide, and a role model for others. In early 2003, after much consideration and dialog between the administators, current members and then National Director of the National El Camino Owners Association, Dan Smith (ElkySS (http://elcaminocentral.com/member.php?u=46)), and NECOA members,
El Camino Central and The National El Camino Owners Association, combined membership and elcaminocentral.com became the internet home of the NECOA.

After the merge, we had nearly 900 members. Today, (March 2009) El Camino Central has over 13,000 members in the US, South America, Canada, Australia, Asia, Africa, and Europe making us the largest, greatest and friendliest group of El Camino owners in the world.

Question?
"After the merge, we had nearly 900 members. Today, (March 2009) El Camino Central has over 13,000 members in the US, South America, Canada, Australia, Asia, Africa, and Europe"

I just made a post less than a month ago about (real Members) it netted less than 300 responces.
I can understand not everyone wanting to be counted or maybe not see the post, although it did run for a month.
Anyone have any ideas as to why the numbers would be so different, 300 verses 13,000 is quit a difference.:dontknow:

Hey DDD...This info was reposted as a bit of history...900...13000...are old numbers. Last newbie post I read was at over 17.9K.... Of course we are all aware that some rejoin under other guise...Like Ernie...for a reason...Others are found out to be several members so that they can reply to their own posts...No names but an example resembles pull or yank followed by Jeff Gordon's number...Your poll did not bring responses from everyone but did show a percentage slice of active VS read only that may come close to accuracy across the entire membership. I think most that replied chose lesser instead of more because they didn't fit one of the choices exactly.
