NECOA Status Report to Members -- 12/5/2010

The last two years have been pretty tumultuous ones for many of us in America and around the world as well: Economies were collapsing, banks failing, jobs disappearing, and mortgages being foreclosed. Here in America we are just now starting to pick ourselves up off the ground and doing what needs to be done for recovery.

It hasn't been a good time for El Camino owners either. Elcaminocentral had been sold to a business entity in Canada; several of our longest-serving moderators have gone elsewhere; a number of Regional Directors have just disappeared; and a lot of dissention and rancor has recently surfaced in posts on our favorite website. Things were pretty discouraging and starting to come unraveled.

But "Interesting people who drive interesting cars" came together a few years back to start NECOA, and others built a great website at ECC on their own initiative before the two groups merged in 2003. Together, they created the most friendly, reliable, and well-regarded auto website, where everyone was treated with respect. Some of those long-time members decided a few months ago that it was worth rebuilding that structure and decided to just go ahead and do it again. Leo Cerruti, Ken Rogers and a few others rolled up their sleeves and reached out to both old and new members to get NECOA and ECC back on the right track. Today, we are confident that it can be done and are pleased to report the following actions:

All previous officers who are no longer active have been dropped from their positions and qualified replacements are being recruited.

John Harris of MA has been asked to return from a long absence to help out as National Director until new officers are in place and they choose a new leader. Leo Cerruti, Region 2 Director from NY, will remain in that role as well as serving as Super-Moderator on ECC. Leo will be one of two Assistant National Directors, alongside Ken Rogers from TX. Ken is also a Super-Moderator and will now also be the new Region 13 Director for all of Texas, and will have Glenn Lee serve as Assistant Region 13 Director.

In Florida, Lenny Carey will step up as Region 6 Director and will be selecting several active members to be Assistant Region 6 Directors. in different areas of that state. Danny Hernandez of CA will become more active again as Region 18 Director, as will Curtis Coyle of OK in an expanded role as Region 12 Director. (Lots of other personnel changes and geographic realignments are also in the works.)

Robert More of Texas, the founder of ECC, will serve on the NECOA Board of Directors and provide assistance and expertise to our Moderators and Administrators. It will remain our intention to provide a closely-moderated website as before, to preserve our reputation as a family-oriented and welcoming source on the Internet, focusing on El Camino related communications only.

Please know that while ECC is now owned by a for-profit business entity, it will be actively managed by NECOA members only, with professional technical support provided by Autoforums. We would like NECOA members to be aware that only the current officers listed on the NECOA Regional Directors and Officers are authorized to use the names, logos, and paraphernalia of the National El Camino Owners Association (NECOA) or El Camino Central or to represent that they are affiliated with us in any fashion. At present there are no dues or fees required for membership and NECOA is not presently engaged in any fund-raising ventures whatsoever.

We welcome your continued support and participation in NECOA and ECC, and hope that you will become more involved in our future activities. Your thoughtful suggestions for growth and improvement are always welcome. So, let's all roll up our sleeves and get this rebuilding underway! Best regards for a more prosperous and happy year in 2011!

John Harris, National Director of NECOA
on behalf of the Officers and Board Members

I want to echo John's thanks to all who have stepped up, assisting not only with their very valued and much welcomed advice, but who also who have stepped up and provided their time in making calls and writing PMs and eMails. But most of all I want to thank John for coming out of semi-retirement to once again provide his excellent leadership in this time for a revitalization of the NECOA, a time when many of the membership had forgotten who and what we are! THANKS, John.................Ken!

And, I offer a cold  to all those of age, and a root beer to the wise Coyote!

Great to hear that the NECOA is on track. Now I do have a question, what positions were vacated and when will elections or whatever be?

Just a suggestion,
Maybe re-reading the FIRST POST you will find your answers.
At least I thought it was very informative as well as providing
not only insight, but a POSITIVE DIRECTION.
Elections will not be held, positions will be awarded / appointed.
Should you wish to be considered, ( as posted in a previous thread ) a
simple PM or Email to one of the Directors or Moderators indicating
your intrest will be considered as well as I'm sure appreciated.
But Hay --- what do I know ?:dontknow: It's just a guess on my part, but I
feel it's a good guess.

" All previous officers who are no longer active have been dropped from their positions and qualified replacements are being recruited."

That's what I read. It didn't state what positions (IE which districts or such, i presume each district has it's own representative?) nor that those were being appointed, instead recruited.

It also said:

"(Lots of other personnel changes and geographic realignments are also in the works.)" But once again, did not state which districts. I was just asking for further information in relation to the post if it was available.

'But hay ~ What do I know?'

Thanks for the link to the list from Leo rushgator. I was wondering if putting some of this rebuilding post on the Facebook page may help with some of the still vacant positions....Looks like Danny may have stepped back up in region 18 after info that Leo posted there. There are a lot of fans there and several are NECOA members.

Just a thought...Thanks again Glenn and ...What do you think Leo?

Additional news this week: Texas Regional Director (and Deputy National Director) Ken Rogers has selected an outstanding member to assist in Region 13 as Deputy Director. He is Glenn Lee, better known here as Rushgator. That great group of members now has another leader to organize even more events in the Lone Star State, formerly known as The Texas Republic! Good luck to all down there!
