Edit: Sorry! I forgot to mention that I'm a new member! Glad to meet you all!

Hey all! I'm working out of Columbus, OH on an 83 305 restoration/custom project. Have run into a few snags along the way--both doors are completely rusted out on the bottom, not sure if welding will hold together. :???:

also, looking for a headliner board. mine is completely trashed, tried fiberglass to no avail.

so far, junkyards haven't been much help and everything on ebay is pretty pricey.

any tips on where to look or new techniques to try? thank you guys so much!

-Mayday

edit: pics to come soon.

Welcome! Check the Garage Sales section here, you might find some replacement doors reasonably priced. Nice job on the tailgate, too.

Gbody doors are known for rusting out at the bottom...my Elky was Ziebarted when new and the doors still badly rusted out. Bad news is finding good used doors, although not impossible, is getting harder. 78 and up Elkys Malibus and Lemans are a match. The other Gbodys have different body lines. Good news, new doors are now being made, both the inner door shell and the outer door skin...but their a bit expensive. The inner door shells are the same for all 78-88 Gbodys (2dr models). Of course the glass for the Elkys is different. I found a decent set of power doors on a boneyard Elky that was hit by a freight train, one door was pretty much untouched, the other door needs a new door skin and glass...got them for $80. If you find good inner shells cheap from any 2dr Gbody, you could always put new Elky/Malibu door skins on, using your glass.

Welcome to the forum. i bought my headliner from Dixiemontecarlo.com for around $140.00 including shipping and new clips. It's the ABS plastic with the correct material. It was a perfect match. I've had good luck ordering from Dixiemontecarlo.com. Nice job on the tailgate. What are you doing with the tail lights? I've been thinking about frenching in some small round LED lights into the bed on either side of the tailgate and making some plexiglass covers smoked the same color as the car. Whatdya think? any opinions or photos of this already done?:texas:

Jarhead, that sounds awesome! I'm thinking about a strip light running in between the tailgate and roll pan. The whole body is gonna be shaved, door handles, marker lights, the works.

I promise I'll post pictures as she moves along!

Welcome to the forum. I am experiencing the same problem with my doors rusting out on my fifth generation. I think I am going to be able to save mine with some fabrication. So far all I have seen is the new tail lets see the rest more pictures!!

I would keep looking in the junkyards for the headliner, or post a wanted ad on your local craigslist. I was successful in both areas looking for various parts. As long as you can find a headliner board in fair enough condition, any decent interior shop can reinforce it and line it for around $70 (as long as it's not in the vehicle).
