Is it better to have a mechanical fuel pump or an electric....i currently have an electric pump installed but thinking about going back to a mechanical..what are the pros and cons..whats a good fuel pump on the market
Dont know a whole lot, but i know a little.. Electric pumps can be bought w/ ALOT higher output, in excess of around 500 GPH and more than 20 PSI, where as most mechanical pumps are around 150 GPH. IMO you dont need an electric pump for the street, just draws power from your stereo :)~ You can get the job done fine w/ an edelbrock mech. pump, which are good, along w/ holley or whichever brand you prefer. Just go w/ a 6-7 PSI mech fuel pump that flows 110 GPH or so and youll be fine, and alot easier on a pocket book.. But i dont see whyd you change if you already have an electric? Unless its going bad ;/

On a street driven car a mechanical pump is the best choice. Only if you have an ultra high performance engine would an electric pump be necessary to prevent fuel starvation on a hard launch which prevents fuel flow to the mechanical pump.

Only if you have an ultra high performance engine would an electric pump be necessaryOr on a late model block that doesn't have a place to let you hook up a mechanical fuel pump

Yes you are correct, Gen 5 big blocks do not have a provision for a mechanical fuel pump because they were built to use electronic fuel injection only.
