I have tried and tried to remove the black vents from the center vent assembly on my 1980. I have the entire assembly removed and I have tried to pry the vents out by inserting a screwdriver between the vent and the frame. No luck. I can get the outer retaining pin out of the hole but cannot get the inner one at the same time.
I could sure use some advice.
Thanks,
Jack

I'm sorry to hear you are still having the same problem I had with mind since I was replacing the center vents earlier this year. I wish I could show you with pictures but I've not learn that yet. All I can say is they will pry out without breaking the center ring. They snap in on top and I'm sure if you saw a picture of the center vents you would understand how they snap out. Perhaps if you search here or on some retails stores that sell those. Sorry I can't explain it any better. I remember I finally got them out but it took awhile. Michael

I see the pins on each each end of the vents. I see the pins are in holes. As I stated, I can get one pin out of the hole but cannot get both pins out to remove the vent.
What did you use for a tool?

Sorry I'm just getting back to you but I've been gone all day. As II recall I just used a small screw driver and slowly worked it out. Sorry I'm not much help but I know once you get the vent out they are much easier to put in. Just be careful you don't break any of them by putting too much pressure on them. Don't ask me how I know, yeh, I broke one and had to buy two since they came in a set of course. Good luck and I thought someone else might explain it better but I see no one else has answered your question. Have a Merry Christmas and A Blessed Holiday. Michael:nanawrench:

Thanks Michael. I have tried with small, medium, and large screwdrivers. Also with a pocket knife, metal shims, and ice pick.
As I said, I can get one pin out on either side, but cannot get both pins out at the same time to remove the vent.
I have succeeded in cracking one of the vent sides. I could easily glue that if I could get it out.

I bought new vents for my 72 and had trouble getting the old ones out. I ended up getting some tin snips and cutting them into peices. Getting the new ones in wasn't easy either.
