: Gotta fix it!

Well, I couldn't stand it any longer!!!

Late last summer I made a half hearted repair of a few small blistered spots and ended up with primer showing through on the driver side quarter :( and that just won't do with the events I have coming up.

I've got the problem spots uncovered today, tomorrow I'll block sand to find the low spots then prep and skim coat with filler. Then block sand and fill, and block sand and fill, and......... Hopefully I'll get paint back on it by the weekend, but I will not rush it!

No turning back now!!!

AARRRRRRGGGG!!!!

Yep, easy to fall into the "might as well" trap!!!

It needs to be repainted all the way down both sides but That must wait till cruise in/show season ends. Had it not been for mechanical issues during the off season I would have done it already.

Looking good BigJames! I took a body shop class several years back, and after I got the first coat of primer on, the instructor had me mist the body work with flat black primer. So when I sanded it again it showed the low and high spots. Worked well, and I was able to get a door back to looking factory.
Good luck with yours. :)

Yep, I know that trick!

It's primed and ready for the guide coat! Then the sand/fill/prime/sand/fill/prime...... , hopefully I'll have color on it later today!

Looks like you've done this before! :D I also had a nice straight flat piece of metal (maybe 18 to 24 inches) to lightly go up and down on the body looking for lows & highs......but I bet you got that covered too.
Got to have patience eh! Post a pic when it's done, I'd like to see how it comes out, as I'm sure a lot of folks out there are interested as well.

What are you using to shoot with, paint, gun, pressure? I plan on trying with mine when time comes :)

It's definitely looking good. You running a 454?

Thanx for the feedback bigJames. I'm taking notes for my work-in-progress, will put it all to use as time allows.

I pulled the cam from my 454 this eve. and the last lobe was wiped, I knew something was up when I bought it, was hoping it was a lifter, but this gives me more justification to rebuild totally.

Might you or anyone out there know what pass hi perf 6 (cast in the front part of the block) stands for on a 74/454. I believe it's the 235hp for that year.

What do you estimate your hp?

G-Tech says 307 at the rear wheels. May be a little conservative since tire spin is a problem.

Best way to get the info for your engine is go to this site

Thanx bigJames! I plan to go roller and a few other goodies to make it a good cruiser.......also keeping the higher gear and installing a 700r4, want to try and get a couple hundred miles between fillups :D

How's the paint work coming along?

It would have been flawless had a 747 sized "skeeter" not flown into the first coat! Igot it looking pretty good with a little color sanding and buffing though.

That's the problem with working in an open garage! This winter I'll rent a proper booth and do it right!

 I know what you mean, damn them skeeters! Got to get a good booth for sure. I have a friend in town that will probably help out when it comes time to paint, if not I'll be battling the critters as well.
