I finally got around to changing the water pump out of my 86 Elky with a little 305 in it. I have had it for around 6 months, so I am still learning stuff about it everyday. While I had all the brackets off the front of the motor I could get to the plate just in front of the head on the right hand side to get the numbers off of it. The first set of numbers are V1029DDL and then the second set is a partial off the vin number. The good news is the numbers match so I have an orginal motor(305) for whats that worth. The first number I know the V means the motor was made in Flint Michigan and 10 is the month it was made and the 29 was the day. What is the DDL? I can't find it anywhere. Thanks in advance. :You_Rock:

Thanks but already been to that site and it does not have DDL in it. Thanks for trying.

My Chevrolet Parts and Illustration Catalog shows DDL simply as one of the engine assembly codes corresponding to a 305, LG4 with VIN code H.

... forgot to mention, used in 1986.

What is LG4 and your saying there is an H in my vin number?

Yes, on an 86 the eighth character of the VIN is the engine code. H means 5.0 liter V8 with 4 barrel carburator. LG4 is GM production option for the 305 engine used in that year El Caminos.
