: whats in your bed
PunkRican 04-21-2004, 06:38 PM since this is general bs, this here is a nice ns topic to kill time.
what's in your bed? (the one on ur camino not talkin botu the hot babe at home) or maybe whats usually in it? got any kool stuff done to it?
mine sux... got a spare and some ripped out carpet. cant forget the rhino liner.
a73elkyss 04-21-2004, 06:59 PM Nothing to exciting here. The only thing that goes in the bed of my Elky is wax. O.K., once my grandson was in there, but thats it.
wheelklown 04-21-2004, 07:00 PM a mat, a bunch of scratches, my other set of rims, and prolly a screwdriver....
work in progress :?
camino81 04-21-2004, 08:04 PM parts and pieces and more parts, all which need put back together so i can drive my elky.
77Elky 04-21-2004, 09:34 PM what's in your bed?
A sprayed-in bedliner, dirt and woodchip debris from last weekend's project. I was cleaning up some old timbers that were in my yard and transported them via the elky bed to my firepit in the backyard.
Wes Turner 04-21-2004, 10:14 PM "what's in your bed?"
A rubber floor mat, covered by a canopy (something some Elky owners feel spoils the look) and a piece of pipe to prop up the canopy door, since the struts to hold it up are shot.

n1earnhrt 04-22-2004, 08:16 AM Most of my engine. I'm in the middle of an engine swap. Hopefully I will get here on the road soon.
a73elkyss 04-22-2004, 08:37 AM A rear engine El Camino? How cool would that be???? Bet it would do a great wheel stand......
Stevus79 04-22-2004, 08:45 AM Nothing too exciting for sure...
a cracked plastic bedliner; crack is not too bad, I am the only one who notices...
my spare 235/60/R15 ; prolly too big to fit in the smuggler's compartment.
and a home made cargo "net" made by connecting four of those rubber straps connected at the center to an "O"-ring and each going to a corner hook.
one day I'll change out the cracked bedliner, but haven't decided whether I'll replace it or go rubber or spay-in as of yet.
camino81 04-22-2004, 08:46 AM I saw some pics. awhile back of a 5th gen that had a rear engine BBC. Pretty wild.

highwaysignpost 04-22-2004, 11:41 AM Let's see...the last of my sidewalk blocks(weight over the winter and insurance against those common freak snowstorms). Rubber bedliner mat, and a stainless steel kitchen sink(still in it's box). I was thinking of making a parts washer out of it but I really don't have the room in the garage. Maybe I'll just turn the bed into a camper-I already have the sink :-D

ColdBastrd 04-22-2004, 11:51 AM This is what was in it when I got it. (http://coldbastrd.cz28.com/images/cam4.jpg) Seats, doors, moldings, you name it! Now it just has the SS dash I just picked up,a new grille, and a rear bumper cover for my Camaro. Seems to be a good place to hold bulky stuff doesn't it
PPhem 04-22-2004, 12:03 PM A weedwacker. two gas cans. bungee cords. and a knife.
RATCAMINO 04-22-2004, 01:51 PM rubber mat, spare tire, and some rust flakes and other debris left over from when i hauled some junk to the scrapyard a week or two ago.
motorbreth 04-22-2004, 04:04 PM starting from the bottom up it would be: scratches, homemade bedliner cut from a full-size trucks, spare tire, the "camino" of the rear qtr name plate(dont worry i got a new one), various cans, my spare tire jack and tire iron(recently used), the bracket that holds the inside door handle to the door, and misc. screws/nuts/bolts that used to hold things together
bigjames4xl 04-22-2004, 06:44 PM Under an ever thickening cover of body filler dust, one bed side moulding, front and rear corner moulding, tail light housing, tonneau cover,......, oh well,
see for yourself HERE (http://www.chevelles.com/showroom/inthebd1temp.JPG)
ElkyPete 04-22-2004, 07:52 PM My 76 is just painted nothing to speak of. The 80 I've been working on - for e v e r it seems, has a carpeted bed with a hard cover. The cover uses two electric power rams for lift, there will be a complete set of speakers back there so when the bed cover is up the speakers are connected and working and the set in the cargo area will be disconnected. The spare and battery will be tucked away in a carpeted box with a jack. Along the lid on each side will be lights that, if I can swing it, will flash to the beat of the music. It will have sound dampening material laid down before the carpet is set so I don't pick up strange noises while driving or when the stereo is connected to those speakers. I have most all of what is going in back there already but I still need to get there in the project. Lately I've had some issues I needed to get fixed up with the 76. My 76 is more my cruiser the 80 is more of a show truck and according to my wife, hers! Once I get back to working on it, it will take about two or three months to get back together.

1982 SS 04-24-2004, 07:37 PM Cardbord ocuz i'm in a wheelchair ever since i broke my leg 8 weeks ago and I don't want to scratch up fresh paint. Really hard to get around. I have hardly been able to work on anything particularly the tailgate from when I got hit back in february. :-(
ElkyPete 04-25-2004, 01:39 AM i broke my leg 8 weeks ago ... :-(
It was about this time last spring I fell and shattered my heel on my left foot. It had me down most of the summer. It took a while to get use to it again after it was suppose to have been healed up. So man I can sympathize with you on that broken leg. Take it easy and don't be in a hurry. My foot still hurts like hell from time to time. Hopefully your younger than I am and will heal faster.
:D I never thought I'd say that "Hopefully your younger" A sure sign of getting old! :D

a73elkyss 04-25-2004, 05:26 PM Hey BigRed, now that is one awesome looking engine in the bed of that elky! That is so damn cool. Did you see and hear it run?
Thanks for the picture, I'm going to have to save that one.
By the way, I'll be sending a private message regarding New England Region 2 members email list.
Thanks again,
A tall slender blonde that makes more money than I do and likes to spend it on me. lol JimHey Jim...funny, you didn't introduce me to her when I was up there? ;)

That's why she's still in the bed of my Elky and not yours..........Jim lolWell you're better lookin gent than I, but I've got a really cool lookin hard cover on my bed, so she'd probably wouldn't like ridin back there anyway. :P
Scrubby 04-26-2004, 06:43 PM scratches, dents, dings, coat of ospho, primer overspray, empty space, and a spare with no air. Maybe I should fix that and put some air in the spare.
78 Elky 04-26-2004, 09:52 PM Lets see, a set of headers, a radiator, alternator, transmission, crossmember, miscellaneous accessory brackets and bolts, air cleaner, ..... My cars been sitting for the past 9 months and I had nowhere to put the stuff. I had a thrust bearing failure after 1100 miles on my new motor and had to leave for school before it got put back together. But should be on the road in 4 weeks or so.
72ss454Florida 05-10-2004, 09:50 AM right now, some rust, chipped paint, a few tools, etc...
but even though this may not have been the purpose of the topic (and maybe I will post this under the body work forum also) I wanted to ask the opinion of you all...
I was thinking of doing a wood bed similar to early pickup trucks like I used to have....
http://www.mar-k.com/Technical_Info/Installation_Hints/Wood_Finishing/finished_wood.jpg
to really do it like a pickup this would be THE floor (bed) of the truck, but I dont think I want to do that to my 72 SS, so I was thinking of making one that could lay over the bed floor like a mat but only of wood. I was even thinking of making a few trim pieces on the interior to match or use a Monte Carlo wood trim SS dash instead of my black one to sort of match. Maybe even the wood trim on the tailgate could be real ultra thin veneer instead of the sticker - of course the SS didnt come with the wood trim but I could add it....
This way I could make a 'custom' one of kind car without cutting up a classic....
whadda ya think?
Furious82 05-10-2004, 10:18 AM Heater box, header panal, front inner fenders, fuel pump, intercooler (not for the elky), wiring harness, carpet, and much more

I've always loved that idea and thought about doing that in the future. Maybe making two sections, kinda cut right down the middle. A right and left side. And put them over the existing bed. I don't want to cut my bed up either. After putting the two sections down, then maybe one of those nice stainless pieces to "hold" it together. Like a removable floor??
Anyway, I like your idea (and that pic) and agree, it deserves a separate post under the bodywork forum. I'll try and keep an eye on the threads if you decide to do it. Great idea!
The old battery that crapped out, a bad fuel pump, and some other garbage. I really need to stop next to the dumpster and clean it out, LOL.
NudeAutoMall 09-04-2004, 05:01 AM A rear engine El Camino?
I'm looking for one, a 68 / 69. I helped build this car whe I was a kid in the sevendies. I have heard the car made the cover of Hot Rod since. But I am having little luck finding it or it's creator. Any info would be greatly apreciated.

I want to do that too, but with lighter wood! Actually I already tried to get some of your opinions on it in an earlier post. Problem is the $1000 or so it would cost
The last things in my Elky's bed were the 2 rears I'm selling (check the web page ) Dented up and scraped a few things in there, even with a thick bed mat and towels around everything. Generally, I just keep parts I'm swapping in the bed. When we were redoing the interior and putting on the supercharger at the same time, it got pretty crowded back there!
