Good morning everyone,
Let me start off by introducing myself. My name is Jay Levitan. I am the Region 2 Director for El Camino Central / NECOA. I go by the name of “a72elky” on the ECC/NECOA web site and drive a 3rd gen '72 El Camino. You can check it out at http://elcaminocentral.com/users/a72elky. I live in Leicester, Massachusetts (which is in the central part of the state) with my wife, Dian, and my daughter, Andrea. I work for the College of the Holy Cross in the Information Technology group. Kinda a geek job, but I like it.
A few ideas I had to better communicate with other regional members are:
I would like to use the ECC forum section, in particular, our Region 2 section, to post potential car shows / cruises. This combined with using the ECC calendar and this email list should give us a good handle on reaching as many regional members as possible. I am starting a separate thread on our Region 2 forum for each event. This will make it easier to post directions, meeting locations, attendance, and communication for each specific event. I think this is great way to use these forums.
Here is a start for car shows that we can attend as a club:
May 22nd, 23rd, and 24th at New England Dragway, NH. The Super Chevy Show. This was a great show last year. I will be out of town during this weekend and won't be able to attend, but highly recommend this show, as I'm sure you will enjoy the show. Check out http://www.superchevyshow.com/ . Posted on the ECC calendar.
June 6th in Bristol, CT. Connecticut Chevelle Connection’s 11th Annual “Bowtie Classic”. Details at http://www.ctchevelle.net/carshow.html. Posted on the ECC calendar.
Oct. 3rd in Orange, CT. Pyrmaid Shriners car club and Gforce Motorsports 4th Annual Fall Car and Truck Show. Check their flyer at: http://www.ctchevelle.net/images/orangeshow.jpg. Posted on the ECC calendar.
I’m also trying to gauge the appeal of doing a cruise to Hyannis, Cape Cod on Sunday June 20th, Fathers Day. The Hyannis Chamber of Commerce closes down Main Street and packs in about 200 or so show cars to check out. Dian and I drove down last year, checked out the cars, had some lunch and then drove back. It was a real nice day.
There are numerous weekly cruise nights throughout Region 2. John Harris has posted the one at Skip's Hamburger in Merrimack MA and Tony and Sue Moschella from Revere, MA. told me about a weekly Cruise night at Fudruckers restaurant, every Thursday night on Rt. 1 in Saugus, MA (5 pm to 8 or 9 pm) sponsored by Cyclone Car Club. These weekly cruises are posted on the Region 2 forum. Lets continue with the separate post for each different one. If you don't want to post it and /or would like some help, just email the details and I'll take care of it.
I have also used the Region 2 ECC forum section to post parts that I have seen for sale that might interest local members. For example, I saw an ad for a '79 El Camino front clip in the local "Want Advertiser". Well, nobody from Texas is going to drive up to NH for a $250 front clip, but maybe a local member would be interested.
I’d like to start working on a Regional “recruitment” flyer. Something we can distribute to other non ECC member El Camino owners that we see at future outings. I’d like it to emphasis our strengths such as a great website, free membership, support and opinion forums, free web site hosting, etc.
I know I rambled a bit, but how does this sound to everyone?
Opinions, suggestion, and comments always welcome.
