Remember there is the Ft Worth Motorama now in July (1-3rd, Fri-Sun). That will be my last outing since I have orders back to Japan leaving out in July. For those of you from out of the area; if your car can't make it, maybe you can. Cowtown and the Stockyards might be some good fun for the whole family for the holiday weekend. Plus hanging out with us DFW people might not be too bad.

Maybe we can do a cruise-in from DFW to a point half way to Houston while you guys do the same coming northbound. We all eat some BBQ in the middle then cruise home?

Centerville TX is (according to Google) 125 miles from Dallas on I-45, and 118 miles from Houston on I-45 using only the city name to look them up. Where is a good place to meet and eat in Centerville? Anyone been there before?

About the State get-together - thanks, Donny, for once again getting something very worthwhile started. Count me IN! Also count on whatever help that the 'gater & I can furnish. We can generate Statewide PM lists and get invitations mailed out - as soon as you get the date & location finalized. Only things I'd like to suggest are (1) that you don't forget all the great members down San 'tonio way - "Remember the Geezer" comes to mind when I think of that city (I can't imagine why?), and (2) that we strongly emphasize that El Caminos, while encouraged, are optional - we want all the members possible to attend. Thanks again, Donny! And now everyone knows why I've named you the official Activities Director for the Region.................Ken  :You_Rock: :texas:

What about Madisonville? it's on I-45 just south of Centerville. There is a new Buckee's store there and they have a huge parking lot and clean bathrooms! There are lots of places to eat and i'm sure the manager of Buckee's would like the added bidnuz. Centerville is a nice little town but they don't have any facilities. But, if you wanna buy a horse, pony or donkey, I can show you where to buy one!

We had a spring meet at Belton last year, which mainly attracted DFW and Austin folks, although it wouldn't be too much of a drive for S.A. folks. I thought the meet location was great, and would be in favor of meeting there again. Belton is on I-35 just south of Temple. Would that be too far for Houston people to go? Also, I would be in favor of any meet at or near Texas Motor Speedway, or at the Texas Motorplex in Ennis.

I haven't started pushing for an exact place yet because I'd like to give more people time to respond. I figure the center of where (most) people that are willing to come will be the fairest. So do like me and save all you nickels and dimes till we pick a place:poke:
I want to meet as many and have as many members there as possible but still be fair in location.
So hey you people better speak up if you want it to closer to you!!!

According to Mapquest, distances/times are as follows;
Belton
Houston, 171 mls, 3 hrs 6 mins
Dallas, 137, 2 hrs 16 mins
Austin, 60 mls, 1 hr 8 mins
San Antonio, 140 mls, 2 hrs 19 mins
Centerville
Houston, 117 mls, 1 hrs 53 mins
Dallas, 123, 2 hrs 0 mins
Austin, 144 mls, 2 hr 34 mins
San Antonio, 227 mls, 3 hrs 50 mins

Belton looks like a good bet if people are coming from all 4 locations (or places in between) although a bit further for Houstonians. Centerville's probably better if no-one is coming from San Antonio. Rider to that is I've stopped many times off of I-45 on my way to Dallas around Madisonville and Centerville and I don't remember thinking they were places I needed to go back to in a hurry, plus I've been up and down I-45 more times than I care to remember and I wouldn't put it on my top 10 list of fun things to do in Texas. Never been to Belton, and it would be a nicer drive, so it would probably get my vote (for what it's worth). Plus I think there's at least one wrecking yard in the area which some people might find interesting.

rushgator
01-13-2011, 12:24 PM
You're right about the salvage yard in Belton. I've been there (after our last ECC meet last March). It's an interesting place to say the least. http://americanhotrodz.com/

We met at Confederate Park in Belton last time. Nice place right off of I-35 with facilities and plenty of parking. http://www.ci.belton.tx.us/facilities.aspx?RID=2&Page=detail

I agree that if we can get enough members from S.A. and Austin to come, it may be the best option. Like DDD said, we'll just have to see who is willing to come, and then pick a time and place that will work for the greatest number of people.

Well, I've read through all the posts up to this point, and I'm on the fence as usual. Being self-employed, my world can get crazy at any time. Especially spring and summer. I'll say this, I don't care much for I-45(as somebody pointed out), I've made that drive almost as many as I-35 (south outta Dallas), and I like 35 better. I like to think I'll make the get-together this year, but there are so many variables (same goes for everybody else, I'm sure). From up here at the Red River, anywhere is a haul, but it does sound like a great spring fling, so I am interested and will keep tabs on the plan. Donny, I'll need to start saving 5's and 10's, not nickle's and dime's. :poke:

One for the date, then one for the place.
Or maybe it's one for the place, then one for the date.

Don't kow which of these cities are West Texas, but here is a site with show listings:
http://www.carshownews.com/national/TX.htm

I just check sites like that and Hotrodhappenings, plus I listen here for shows and get togethers to find someplace to hang with car enthusiasts. Can't always fid cruck enthusiasts, so you take what you can get.

If someone's organizes a get together going north and/or west from DFW, I'll drive there too.

Let's see we are 40 minutes from Lubbock, 2 1/2 from Amarillo and Midland and Abilene, and about 5 1/2 to Fort Worth. We are in the middle of no where. We go to several car shows in this area but we usually have the only El Caminos. We also have Mustangs, Classic Custom Ford truck, and many other classic cars so we go take an assortment. Thanks for the listings.
