I browsed the posts but didn't see anything like what I am experiencing,

the engine will fire immediately when cold, but if I shut it off for a few minutes it is very hard to re-start.
I was just told that this would be the coil, was I told correctly?

any help is appreciated.

The timing on your distributor may be set too high!!

Brian

P.S. Mine done the same thing when I bought it, reset timing and now purrrs like a kitten, Oh by the way I was told to run midgrade tried it once and knocked like crazy. Went to 92 octane and haven't had a problem since.

By "hard to restart" do you mean it cranks normally or is the starter motor "dragging"?

new starter turns strong but when engine is warm it acts like no spark.
Of lately, I haven't shut it off when I take it out for a few minutes.
Took it out 4 miles today, loaded up a desk, kept it running, on the way back it was doing ok,then acted like it was mis-firing, I revved it up a little bit, it cleared, and I made it home.

1. Check that the choke is not sticking in the closed position.
2. Carburetor could be flooding.
3. Air filter may be plugged and need replacing.
4. Fuel not reaching carb. Check fuel filter in carb and fuel pump pressure.
5. Thermac air cleaner may be faulty.
6. EFE (hear riser) may be sticking in the closed position.
