I thought I saw a post about using chevy s-10 rear wheel cylinders. Can they be used on G-bodies? If so off of what year s-10 and would any body have any part #'s. Im also thinking of going with camaro aluminum brake drums for the rear also, any good's or bad's about this upgrade? Thanks in advance guys!!

why not just use the original wheel cylinders and either rebuild them or replace them with new ones which are cheap and readily available?

Yea your right, plus they will do the same thing as the s-10's anyway..But im still going to go with the aluminum F-body brake drums.A guy that works at Hotchkis hipped me to this swap.he said its cheaper then a rear disc brake swap .and almost as effective ALMOST!!! And they sale baer products too soo its good to know that he wasnt trying to rob me.

The weight difference between steel and aluminum 9.5" drums is not very much. I weighed both types once and here are the results.

Steel drum - 13 pounds, 11 ounces
Alum. drum - 10 pounds, 1 ounce
Difference - 3 pounds, 10 ounces

By using two aluminum drums you save yourself 7 pounds - 4 ounces of rotating weight.

I can't see how aluminum rear brake drums would help the braking performance. It is true that aluminum dissipates heat faster than iron but the rear brakes do so little of the braking effort that heat buildup can't be a problem. The rear disc brakes from an S10 sound great and a step in the right direction but I would like to see some cheap practical way to get larger front discs/calipers on the front where they would help the most.

The aluminum drums are a step up from the cast iron drums and that helps. LOL im not trying to stop an ENZO you know and lets face it ,el camino brakes,( factory) arent really that bad unless your pushing like 450 HP and im nowhere near that. my car is just a daily driver and i dont really have the time to hunt down rear rotors and calipers from an S-10 here in California.Oh and lets not forget If you're going to do it right your going to need the master cylinder for a 4 disc set up too. But if i had the time and $$$ I would go with that set up I know it would look cool..
