looks nice, especially in a small place like that, but two 12's will take over anytime.

How did you build the setup it is just a wall or is it a box built in the smugglers compartment. I mean is it just a speaker wall that uses the smugglers compartment as a box and you dynamatted the compartment thanks. Corey

well it depends on the wattages of the 12's and the amp hooked into it. But looking at his system i would say that rwg's is better

The best music system is made by 3" exhaust pipes and two 950 cfm Holleys at 7000 rpm, now that's music.

i have two kicker solo baric L7 15s. With a class d mono block 3000w amp that is one ohm stable.
I will hopefully have pics for you soon but not yet.
I must admit though that your system is pretty cool, but you need some better 10s.

The subs hit hard and they sound really good in the car. The 10"s are 800w rms each, I’m running them at 2000w, lanzar amp. They are running at 2-ohm staple stereo. Two are left and two are right. It sounds really good considering that all the speakers are all in stereo. The volfenhag's are a competition subs, the cone are maid of aluminum they. Are dull voce coil. I would say that audiobahn are better but I found matching 8's so I went with the volfenhag subs. looks pretty good eh? The video game system was because I wanted to do something that my friends were trying to do." they failed to make it look good." and because when my I was going for a trip lets say a couple of ours a way my passenger could keep quiet "watching a move or playing a game." I’m sick of hearing "are we there yet" lol j/k. but just felt good that I could go to my friends and ask" did you get that lcd screen in your car yet" I would here "no" and I would say "oh well I did” I just wanted to beet them to it and I did so it was just the thing to do at the time and now. It blends right in so I thought it would look good, you think?

I have a 5th Gen. I replaced the head unit with a Sony 200 watt with CD player. The two front speakers were replaced with high quality 3.5" speakers. I added two speaker boxes with 10" and 3.5" speakers to the back of the seats-total cost less than $300 and a couple of hours of my time. The result is a "system" that I can play loud enough to hurt my half deaf ears and enough bass to satisfy my 13 year old son. Why would I want more? I could spend $2000 or more but then I would have to forgo a new four speed and rear axle.

I'm looking for a mounting kit for my headunit. I've got an 80 and haven't found anything, Can you guys help?

I mounted a Sony "explode or implode?" and I couldn't find one either. Made my own out of sheetmetal and modified the opening in the panel. Works and looks OK.

80elcamino you can get a kit to mount you radio just about anywhere, i found one at walmart that works on just about a GM cars after 78. the only thing is that you will have to modify the radio trim plate since an 80 has the 2 knob style radio, you will either have to cut it to fit your new radio or get a newer style radio trim plate that has the bigger style opening.

Lots of neato stuff, but how about a printout of the RTA curve with pink noise @ 100dB? Imaging and Separation results, Staging...??

SPL isn't everything, musicality and listenability are where the points are!

(BTW - I've earned several 1st's in Iasca & Naca events, with 300W (total) power back in my day)

not bad i like the box setup personally i think 4 12 in alpine type r's and two 1500w hifonics amps would hit a hell of alot harder and sound 1000 times cleaner. with your setup your gonna need at least two more farads for your cap's. about 1 farad for each 1000watts is the general rule i think. but real nice work

I'm with John D. (BTW I worked in the IASCA home office before the "non-profit org" was sold, now I'm the west coast cordinator for SLAP Show)

Give me some time, I plan on being the best sounding El Camino on Earth (and maybe the loudest, too, cause bass makes the girls grin :D )

BTW I only use Rockford Fosgate, only the best for my baby.

Personally I don't think amps and speakes and subs in a box look good. I have my original 2 speakes in the dash and that's all. If it wasn't a lot of work to cover all the wholes everywhere, I'd enjoy taking my radio and antenna out! I like 86fm "todays best mix of squeeling tires and exhaust" :P

you need some front soundstaging it sounds like. I would look up soundmove.com. They have kickpanel kits with the vent and all, and they have a speaker mount in them. they fit factory cars, and even my 67'. I would ditch 2 of those horn squackers and put some 5 1/4" mids with tweets in the front kicks. the whole idea of soundstaging is to simulate sound AROUND you, not all from behind. Granted the amount of gear you are running does fill up the space, but without a front stage, it will never have the realism it could have. Dont get me wrong, that system is awsome, but i would sure be more impressed if it had some thought out staging. But hey! its all in the beholder. like some others have said, if you were to compete with this system in IASCA or whatever, you would not be receiving kudos, or an excellent score when it all comes down to the judges. Like i said here, sound must seem to be coming from more in front of you than behind. do you watch a concert with your back to it??.ANYWAYS, I would put something up front, and you will be rewarded for that. I love all the gear though, its a very good installation. Just have fun, thats what its all about!! see ya.

Hey rwg, can you throw in a wiring diagram on how you wired all of that into one deck? power and jacks

Lente
11-28-2004, 10:11 AM
Its not that hard the only thing that is going to hook up to the deck will be a remote wire and some rca patch cords. All the speakers should be wired up off the amps. The only thing you have to worry about is the impedence meaning you have to wire the speakers ohm load to amps not to max their ohms load.

rombisoid

So what he did was run rca's like this : 1 set from the front channel to 1 amp, the other channel to the 2nd amp, and the sub rca's to the 3rd amp? How did he split it up, I mean like, front channel to the tweeters, the 2nd amp to the mids, etc ? Is he running a seperate EQ or is it built into the deck? Can he use the "fade" to fine-tune the sound? Is he running and speakers up front.?? :)

Lente
11-28-2004, 11:56 AM
I see well I dont know exactly how he did the channels might have to ask him. But you can do it a number of ways depends you how many inputs your deck has and if it has built in cross over. Lets say your deck only has one rca connection. Then you can use a 3 way crossover and fade it that way. Or lets say your amps have crossovers most amps have passthru rcas and you can do it that way also. It kinda depends what you have to work with first and we can start from there.
