My 80 El Camino Currently has a 229 V6 in it, But Not for long hopefully, but My Concern is the Tranny, Im not sure if it will mount to a 350 or not, all i know about the tranny is it says Hydra Matic on it, Any Chance it will mount to a 350 or should i just ditch it and buy a different one?

More than likely its a TH200 since its behind a v-6, i'm pretty sure it will bolt up to a 350 but i doubt it would last very long behind one, the trannies are notorious for being extremly weak.

Other than the A/G-body wagons, all 229 V6s were followed by TH200s or TH200Cs (don't confuse the TH200/TH200C with the TH200-4R; the 200-4R is a totally different tranny and far more robust than a plain 200). But the A/G-body wagons got TH350Cs. The C, by the way, means they had a lock-up torque converter. I don't know when the lock-up converter first became available but you can tell whether you have that one by examining the tranny for an electrical connector plugging into the front of the case.
You can bolt up a TH350/TH350C in place of the TH200/TH200C with no other changes, as far as I know; the shifter linkage is the same as is the driveshaft yoke, and the length of the trannies.
You could even upgrade to a TH200-4R with a little more work. Since the 200-4R is a 4-speed (has overdrive in addition to the 3 lower gears), you'd need to swap an overdrive steering column to get the shifter mechanism (FAR easier and simpler than trying to rework your stock column); a column from a later car will swap very nicely although the later car also probably had the pulsed wiper system and you'll also want to swap the later windshield wiper/washer, and then you need to move a cupla wires in the steery column wiper/washer connector plus add one more to make the new wiper/washer fully effective. This also negates the earlier wiper/washer controls on the dash so you'll want to swap the later blank dash plate.
In addition to that, you'll need the OD tranny shifter indicator from the later car.
Also, the 200-4R uses a different tranny crossmember that has a special bracket on the left frame rail; this bracket can be cut off a donor car and welded or bolted to your earlier frame.
I'm not sure whether the length of the 200-4R is the same and if not, you'll need to have the driveshaft length changed. Since the Elky has a longer wheelbase than any other A/G-body, you would only be able to use an unmodified driveshaft from a later Elky that had the 200-4R; otherwise, you'll have to have your driveshaft modified.
Sounds like a lotta work just to get the overdrive tranny and it is; but it's also worth it in the end :o)

The TH200, TH350 and the TH200R4 all use the same lenght driveshaft and yoke. But since the transmount is furthur back than the 200/350 you need a different crossmember and unfortunately the 200/350 crossmember cannot be modified to work. If you want a dual exhaust your best bet would be to buy a new custom crossmember.
