You should try the goodmark 2.5 inch cowl hood,it aloud me to use a 5 inch k&n open element filter.

yeah i admit its mickey mouse. But hey some of us are just regular old grease monkeys . Im sure there are others like me in here. We have to be creative and make due with what we got...
The goodmark hood looks great but just dont have the money for that right at the moment..I m just thinking of different ways of induction..I have an friend that actually cut a hole in his hood and placed a cowl hood scoop on top of his dailey driver ...He runs high 9s in the quarter, ( Not too shabby for having one of a few mickey mouse mods).

Taller air cleaner huh? Well gee golly willakers, if youins gonna cut a hole in that there perfectly good hood, why not cut the hole bigun nough to shove a 6.71 blower throughin it. Now theres a different way of induction that will make that Mouse happy you Mickey'd with it!

Yes, a big 671 or 871 blower is a good reason to cut a hole in the hood. Cutting a hole in the hood for a an air cleaner reminds me of the Rice Rocketeers putting a three-tiered 6 foot rear wing on a car whose top speed is fastest off of a high cliff.

LOL....WELL I TAKE IT ITS NOT THE WAY TO GO..YOU WOULDNT BE ABLE TO SEE THERE IS A HOLE IN IT BECUASE A HOOD SCOOP WOULD BE ON TOP..SO CUTTING A HOLE AND FABRICATING A FUNCTIONAL COWL HOOD SCOOP IS NOT SOMETHING THAT NO ONE IN HERE HAS EVER TRIED? ITS NOT A HUGE AIRCLEANER IM THINKING OF BUT AFTER PUTTING A CARB SPACER ON AND A SLIGHTLEY TALLER CLEANER IM SURE I WILL HAVE TROUBLE WITH IT FITING...
NO ROOM FOR A DUAL SNORKEL UNDER THE HOOD BECUASE OF A LACK OF SPACE FOR THE INLET VENTS IN FRONT...iF ANYONE IN HERE HAS BETTER IDEA I AM ALL EARS..LOL.AND NO I CAN SAVE THE BLOWER FOR THE CHARGER THAT IM GOING TO PUT TOGETHER IN A LIL WHILE. :D

Real bummer an Elky needing work and on a small budget.

Sometimes we just have to make due for the moment and fix it right later when the big promotion and raise come thru.

wells its not much of a bummer ..most of my money goes to my vette..i got an elco because alot of the parts are dirt cheap..i went to the pommona swap meet and saw some hoods...and in all actuality the hood made with a scoop looks the same. its a hole in the hood with a scoop on top..So i really dont see what the big deal is..I love el caminos but i really got it so i could fix it up and not spend an arm and a leg doing it. like with my vette. But a any rate i dont think im going to go that route with cutting a neat hole in the top and placing a cowl hood scoop on top...thanks elcamino for showing that link...Knowledge of other options is a better way of giving advice than giving a personal opinion..what can one do with an personal opinion lol..

maybe i am explaining it wrong..What i was thinking of doing is just cutting a round hole on top of the stock hood. An aircleaner maybe 5 or 6 inches high, would come maybe 3/4 out of the hole. On top of the hole there would be a 2 1/2 or 3 inch high cowl hood scoop just like others on el caminos that are in here. It wouldnt be just an air cleaner sticking out of a hole on the hood lol...Now that IS mickey mouse...So maybe i explained it wrong. The cowl hoods on the cars that i looked at had the same idea..I saw a few z28s and a few el caminos with what i was talking about. Some were actual full steal hoods with cowls..and some were hoods with the aftermarket cowl put on top. But they all looked the same pretty much..a round hole with a cowl hoos scoop on top....maybe if i do go ahead and do it i will post a pic...

i figured i was explaining it wrong...Yeah just a hole with the cowl hood covering it up..kind of like how you have your chevy with the carbs coming out the top..only difference would be that the air cleaner would be sticking out..only it would be covered by the cowl scoop..so it just looks like a hood with a nice 3 inch cowl scoop on it..Nothing sloppy. My question was could if i cut the 14 1/2 inch hole in the hood would i have to weld like a brace underneath...A friend told me that the hood might fold if i cut a hole...I dont think it would but wanted some opinions
