I need a new center speaker for my 80. What size is it, and how does it mount?

To get to the speaker you unscrew your center airvent, and drop the ducting down inside the dash. The speaker just screws in to the underside of the dash. I don't remember the size, it's 3x8-ish(?) I swaped mine out for two 3.5 speakers.

How do I mount two 3-1/2" speakers where the center speaker goes?

Trace around the old speaker to make a template, and add two 3.5" holes to it. Then you can cut out a bracket that will mount back in the stock holes.

Too bad I don't have a speaker.

Maybe this is what you want.

El Camino's do not have a Center Speaker, they have two speakers on either side of the dash for the 1980's model, if you've got a center speaker it's aftermarket, and you'll have to size match it to fit because it's a custom job.

Dual speakers were an option in fifth gens. At leat for the first few years. Maybe they were standard after '81?

The bracket I made looked pretty similar to this.

I couldn't get the original screws back in, so I just set the whole setup on top of the ducting and closed the air vent back up. Wasn't a whole lot of room for it to move and never had any issues with it.

Thanks. I can easily calculate the size of that plate based on the assumption that the speakers are 3-1/2" wide.
