Ok, here is the latest issue! When I started my '87 4.3 to go home, the fast idle didn't come on as usual, and it ran like it was missing on a cylinder or 2. I reved it a bit, and the fast idle appeared. I put it in gear to go, and it died. I re-started it and repeated the process several more times. Suspecting a joker where I work, I raised the hood and checked the integrity of the plug wires, and all seemed good. I restarted it again and "two footed" it home. This morning it seemed better, but not right. I replaced the cluster with gauges over the weekend, does anyone think there is a connection? Also, I haven't replaced the senders yet. Possible connection?:???:

Did it start and run normally after you replaced the cluster and is this the first "cold start" since replacement?
I did the cluster on Sunday and didn't really drive it. It seemed ok going to work on Monday, (about 8 miles) but acted up when I left work on Monday...

If it was running good before without problems before the cluster swap and I'm guessing that you went from idiot lights to analog guages, your problem is most likely in the cluster swap.Check this article out it may help you.

I found the answer! The temp sending unit tells the computer the temp, and without a signal, it was going into closed loop! I replaced the sender with the proper unit, and it is fine!:yell:

Your close but what you want is closed loop as open loop is limp home mode.Runs like crap and burns a lot of fuel.I'm glad you got it fixed.
