Hey fellow Californians,
It seems as though Texas and Florida are petitioning National for their own area specific T-shirt. Seems to me that California should also have are own identity. If any of you gearheads are interested and/or have ideas for a California logo., please get on board. Let's see how far we can get with this idea.

I'm down! But first shouldn't we know if region 17 and 18 are going to merge because I thought there was talk of that

count me in. No artistic talent but would love to participate. A CA shirt for the whole state would work, I think? Brian Boru

Yeah.. the whole 17 & 18 reorg thing is still in flux. I don't want to exclude our Nevada brothers and sisters either. We can shoot for separate Ts, one CA and one NEV, or do a combo logo. Something like CAL/Neva. This is why I posted the idea... so that we may discuss our options before we go to National with our request.
So... separate state logos?
or.. Combo logo?

thats going to look funny if you spit the reigons, you'll have N. Cal/Neveda together and southern Cal/Nev. the same.why not make Cal either reigon 18 or 17 and make Nev. either 17 or 18..it don't make any sence spliting the states in half like that..:poke::poke::dontknow:

Yea if we do this let's have a california shirt and Nevada separate. It is kinda wierd how they split it into north and south California and Nevada

sooo,What is it going to take to make this work, anybody from Nev. with some input?? if not,I'de say lets go for it.. I'm getting tired of this north and south California crap, make it one (1)state...

I'd really like to address the whole Cal/Nev, 17/18 border thing with National but I think we need to see how this T-shirt thing plays out first.
@Gilby... the problem with a Cal Nev split is that there are too many members in Ca and not enough in Nev.

We have other Regions that span state borders and the logo debate goes on. For now, I think we need to come up with a logo that included both 17&18. Maybe have the two states outlined but the two regions highlighted in different colors?

I dunno, Work with me, guys! We need some ideas quick.
nation is already looking into an embroiderer to produce separate logos.
This thing may happen soon.

Sorry I haven't been avaiilable to jump in here sooner- been out of the country. With the addition of Deputy Directors, we are getting a lot more interest genereated in California now than ever before- That is Great! The original split of 17 and 18 was an attempt to get major urban areas of Nevada covered. Reno is only 2 hrs from Sacramento, but nearly 9 hours form Las Vegas. If Nev is a seperate region, then Nev will have two distinctly seperate major centers. Probably not bad, considering the size of the territory, but will definately need a Deputy Dir in Reno area.

As for 1 or two t-shirts, you could run a poll to see how many in NV are interested. At this point, just based on this thread, I would say that California has a lot of interest generated, while NV remains quiet. Since moving here, that has been my experience as well. Maybe there are just too many other "Attractions" in Nevada?

I would say go for a "Calif" based T-shirt unless you get more input form other's in Nevada.

Point taken. I'll run it up the flag pole and see who salutes it!
I'm trying to not alienate our Nevada bretheran. I like the idea of a poll, but I think we need the nod from National. I'll check with them over the week-end. In the mean time, let's keep up the chatter on the logo ideas.

btw... one of you guys posted a message that included a "smiley" with a CA flag... I like it... I want it!!!

I'm not saying this is the way to go ,it's just another choice .Put California and Nevada together and put a line through the approximate division between Region 17 & 18.

well, according to the map of the reigons, that put the lines right through carquinez straite, and anything "south"of that will be reigon 17,that meens who ever lives in the peninsula, east bay and south bay,is reigon 17.:dontknow::dontknow:it going to look silly to split or put a line throught it.

If you guys are having trouble getting a logo for your region, you could start one for the whole U.S. or world. Something like this:

That would make the Texs one antique already and no good. Stay with the state Region Idea that Texas is sporting already.

Yeah well... I get the distinct feeling that we are where we are, and no boundary proposals will be considered until after all the Deputy Directors are in place. I have been informed that National is actively pursuing a manufacturer for the ECC T's with the official logo.
What the individual Region logos will look like, nobody knows.
I don't see why we can't get a California logo and fly it under the NECOA flag. That's it... No mention of Regions....

What'd ya think?

We did ours in Tex at cost. I can only imagine what NECOA shirts will cost if they go through Cafe Press. Their T-shirts cost alot more than what I paid for a polo shirt.:texas::dontknow:

I would vote for a California Tee(year specific el caminos might prove to be a stumbling block). Texas logo is excellent. Something along those lines would be good, I think. I dont know how to make the smiley face with the flag appear so I vote the dumb way. An outline of the state in red white and blue(like Texas did) or something along those lines might work. Maybe someone with an artistic streak could come up with something. My 2 cents only. BBB

It's really great to see all this interest and enthusiasm building over the last two months within our organization! Now that we are at 18, 000 registered members; have revamped our website to make it more user-friendly for regional activities; and have dramatically overhauled our leadership roster with 18 newly-appointed Deputy Directors nationwide, things are starting to move forward at a very fast pace.

Unfortunately, we are getting a little ahead of ourselves in a couple of important areas where we need a short pause to catch up. In addition to now having two Regional Directors plus three Deputy Directors actively involved in building our club, we are planning to change the present structure in which California and Nevada are split into two separate regions, with no clear delineation of where the boundary lines are. This split has not made sense since it was created ten years ago; you members have asked for it, and it will be changed.

All of California will become Region 18, led by Danny Hernandez as Regional Director, with as many "chapters" and Deputy Directors as warranted by membership and activity levels. Nevada will become known as Region 17 with Mike Darby remaining as Regional Director and possibly a Deputy Director near Reno, if feasible. Making these changes will require a lot of moving of forums and threads on the website and changes to member profiles, etc. This will take a bit of time but it must be done.

As everyone knows, we are a national organization covering all 50 states, plus hundreds of overseas members. We have an official logo that we used in the past and which appears on our website and anything we have published. That logo is copyrighted and we have sole rights to its use or reproduction, along with the name National El Camino Owners Association and/or NECOA. Our club intends to use these official items on gear and swag for the use of all of our members, not just those in the largest states like Texas, Florida, California and New York, for example. We have to consider all those factors into our decisions on approving gear for members.

For this reason, we are not going to approve their use in anything that depicts the current layout of the two states as Regions 17 and 18. Your club leadership is already developing some guidelines for the use of these official logos and names. That step will help local leadership and members to use them, without alteration, in conjunction with some local identity and graphics. Florida members are also wanting to do something similar as has been done in Texas, but are waiting for this guidance to be issued so their shirts will be consistent with the overall goals of NECOA. (Please do not post sketches of your ideas on the website to promote a concept, but instead send them by PM to either John, Leo, Ken, or Robert for consideration.)

So, we are asking that you hold your enthusiasm for these items at the present moment and channel all this great energy to focus more on recruiting new members and planning/attending events in your local communities. If 20 or 30 unique El Caminos arrive at any one spot for a get-together, don't fear that people won't know who and what you are. The T-shirts, stickers, and other swag that you want will follow along shortly. We promise you that!
