I was looking at this beautiful '70 El Camino SS on ebay and was wondering if anyone has ever seen a hard tonneau cover like this? I love it because it does not cover the bed rails. Love to have one like this for mine.

Hey Dave. That is one fantastic Elky. I wish I had that kind of money to even be in the bidding for it.
I like that bed cover, and like you, I would love to find one just like that. I'm going to shoot off a question to him and see what he says. I don't want to waste his time, but maybe he will respond.

Hey thanks Jay!
Yes please keep me updated if you find out any info on it. I have really been looking for something like this but have struck out everywhere I have looked, and you can look at a lot of places on the internet these days.
I'm at the point of putting down on paper what I want and maybe have one custom made. I would really like a total flat hard cover that fits inside the frame rails. The cover does not have to be water or drip proof for me. I posted about this a long time ago. I understand with our years the area just behind the rear window is not square like most factory square beds of trucks today.
But come on.....I would think SOMEONE who makes thise cool flush hard covers would come up with a idea to solve the non-square bed issue.
Again for those just reading about this issue for the first time I know about Gaylords product. The design of it is just not what I'm looking for. For me it's just too big and bulky and covers all the chrome rails. I want a cover that fixs the style of our 3rd gen's bed, not a cover that looks like i'm hauling one around on top if it like a camper shell.
More on this a little later.

Well put me down as wanting one like this also for mine! I agree with you about the Gaylord covers for 3rd Gen..
If you have custom built maybe we could get a discount for 3 of them??

I did get a response back from the owner / seller of that Elky on Ebay. He only said that the cover was on it when he got it. He did not mention the manufacturer or any other details. Sorry.
Somebody must know who made it. At least I now have a picture of what I want. I'm kinda leaning towards trying to make one myself. I did something like this for an old truck I had many years ago. I made it out of wood, some foam, and had the vinyl stitched up like a regular auto vinyl top. Came out pretty good. I wish I kept pictures of it.

They say....They say YES when everyone else says NO?
Love to drive my Elky in there for show and tell. Maybe they can make a cover for us.
Guess I can call them tomorrow. Pacific time zone here.

I can vouch for the people at Checker. I give them a
About 5 years ago I took a business trip up to KY and had a day of nothingness so I decided to take a drive to the factory to check out their product. I got to walk around in the place and see how they made the covers. I also got lucky and got a cover for my truck I had then, Mazda B3000. It was blemed and HUGELY discounted. It had to be shipped home as I would of had to strap it on the roof of my SUV rental and then lug it to the plane for the ride home.
I really liked the cover but really wish I would of opted to get the quick removal kit.

Check out the El camino store or Orignal PArts group. THey have these in both the textured and smooth styles depending on your year. They run between 700 and 1 grand and some can be color matched to your car.
