here are the #'s off the plate on the firewall and the VIN. My guess is that this IS NOT an SS like the owner thinks and I'm going to have the break the news to him. (I think he paid more for it than he should have and he ain't gonna like what I charge him to put it together)

Well the first year they made an El Camino SS was 1968.
Then VIN decodes as the following
1966 El Camino Custom V8 Manufactured in the Kansas City Plant in april of 66.
The trim is Blue Vinyl
Tuxedo Black and Mist Blue Metallic.

68 was the first SS.......Thats good to know. Thanks for the info you guys. Was the custom the top of the line elky for that year? That might make it easier for me to break the news to him.

Yes for the El Camino the Custon V8 was the top of the line in 1966.
