I have an elky with a little bit of power but very little traction in the rear end... I was thinking about putting sandbags in the back but that is kind of lame. So I got to thinking and have decided that it would be really cool if i did some fairly wide tires for more traction and got some wheel tubs. Where would i get the wheel tubs and how expensive would it be to get the tubs and fabrications done to my elky? Would there be any big problems with this? Thanks in advance for your replies.

I already checked out competition engineering but the pictures are a little shady. I am not sure if they are going to look good when they come out of the bed or not because they look like they arent a set shape from the pictures. Should i go with the steel or the aluminum?

When you put the wheel tubs in, what are you going to do with the frame?
After sandbags, there a bunch of things you can do for traction before going to wheel tubs. But then it sounds like you're more interested in the appearance than the traction. http://www.chicagolandbuick.org/forums_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smileyR.gif

One: If you are planning on Tubs then you should narrow the frame rails. Very easy process. There is a Malibu site that shows how.
Two: for better traction I would try Air bags and boxing in the rear control arms with urathane bushings.
Three: If your paying for the tub job? Plan to spend 12-1500 easy.

OK, so it sounds like i should do a lot of other stuff instead of wheel tubs, thanks for your input... too bad i lost all of my fun budget due to destroying the gears in the rear end.

Yeah, wheel tubs means you heed a narrowed frame, a narrowed rear end housing/axles, new rear suspension, new tires/wheels; gets expensive real fast. Even if you do ALL the work yourself plan on spending $3000 plus. Thats one reason you don't see many tubbed Elkys.

Whoa, time out! You mean to tell me your willing to chop up the bed of your Elky, just to get bigger tires on, and you haven't changed out any rear suspension pieces to aftermarket ones to see if it will help? Try upgrading the rear suspension first before you go dicing and slicing! What year Elky do you have? You can "notch" the frame rails cheaply, and stuff about a 10.5" tire back there...if it's a 5th Gen. I'm not sure about any other generation Elkys.

Since the inner wheel well and the frame rail are pretty much in line with each other I don't see how notching the frame without a bigger (wider) wheel well is going to help.
