I'm putting in a new 350 in my el camino, I will like to know if the car would run good if i take the cat. converter out and run it with mufflers only, is this a bad idea? I do not need any smog equipment in it!

Regulations vary from state to state and county to county within each state. But it's my understanding that you may not remove any emissions equipment original installed by federal law.

Does your local sniffer test require a visual?

I'd recommend headers with true dual exhaust, hi flo cats and really good mufflers...aftermarket stuff is really good these days and you're still legal in most places...

I put a 40 series Flowmaster on my 82 and the thing is so quiet with the stock system and a nearly dead catalytic. I would imagine that straighter true duals with high flow cat's would be the way to go. I can get away without a cat here in utah because it is not required until 83.

Your location says Santa Ana. Is this the Santa Ana in California? If so you need the smog equipment. Or you need to have the extra $$$ to pay for a smog certificate, and that can cost, plus needing to find a 'friendly' smog shop.

Don't ask how I know about this. :P

im planning on runnit a single set up 2 1/2 to a 40 series single in dual out..three inches after the front y pipe is made...i know its gonna be loud..a person told me though that if i go to big it migtht over scavenge..with the result being less horse power...I always thought that straight exhause helped..but sometimes big is not best..i think if you get the right pipe diameter you will be ok....does any have any feed back on this becuase im not a hundred percent sure..
