I'm going to look at an '80 with a 327 this evening. I'll tell you after I drive it. But, my guess would be "yes"

When I get the money (Sucks to be poor) I'm getting that 327 crate motor I posted the link for. I called them and they will put in a Comp Cams camshaft of my choice, ballance the motor ...ect and still have the 7 year/ 70,000 mile warrentee !!!!!! So I'm thinking the mildly built 327, 700r4, and 3.73's :D

Looks like a great combo! Would definitely be a great drivetrain, with a warranty to boot. Good luck and let us know how it turns out!

I'm planning on putting a 327 in my Caballero. Not because it's a great choice but because I have one in the garage already. :)

I need to start rebuilding it soon. Once I get the rest of the truck finished I'll begin. It's not going to be any sort of race engine, just mild.

AL I'd say it's a great choice. 350's are comman. I'm not planning on building a mega hot rod, part of me wants too, but I want a good daily driver. 9 to 1 compression, and probley Comp Cams 268-H magnum cam, some Hooker headers, Dart machinery Kool Can intake, a 650cfm Demon carb, and a Pete Jackson (noisy) gear drive. That'll make me happy. :D

I drove the '80 with the 327 last nite...and yes it's fun...that is if your idea of fun is smoking the tires and going sideways at 3/4 throttle. It's running a Holley 750 and headers, and a moderate cam, so it's built pretty good. Don't know what compression it's running. I need to contact the engine builder if I can track him down.

327s are defenitely fun! Back when I was a pup I had one in my '66 Malibu. Ran headers and a cam with a 3916A dual feed Holley with gear drive in front of a Muncie 4spd. Used 7.5" cheaters so I could get traction in first gear. Big thrill is you can wind 'em up to 8 grand with hydraulic lifters before they float. :D

PS: Sold the 327 and put in a 427. 6mpg! The wife and I still wish we had that car.

Yep, high revving motor even on hydraulic lifters. I had a 283 bored .120 (301) that I used to run and that would turn some RPM's. Still have that motor as well. It's been in storage for about 15 years, not gonna put that in the Elky. It will be getting the 327. I won't be putting on the 2.02's I have on it though as I need accessory holes and they are lacking them.

AL The World Products S/R Torquers are good heads, if you want the 2.02's, then you could get the World Products Sportsman 2 heads.
