Just a curious question. what kind of engine does everyone have and what kind a gas mileage you get? I got a stock 305 4-bbl q-jet and I get on average 6-8 and 10 on a good day.(Lots of hills here.)

holy crap, are you serious. I have a 1986 4bbl with a 305 and I get an average of 18.5 miles to the gallon.

on a good week ( like know hills and traffic I have gotten her to like 20 miles to the gallon).

Before I got new plugs, wires, K&N air filter, and a Tornado I was getting like 13 or 14 miles to the gallon.

I'm going to agree with "holy crap!" I've had four elcamino's, from a 1980 to a 1987. Three with V8's and one with a V6, all have gotten at least 15mpg. I get better gas mileage than you towing my trailer! Definately could use some looking into ie(air filter, timing, flat tires, three dead cylinders, screwdriver jammed into the four barrels, 750cfm double pumper carb installed etc.) j/k but seriously you have something wrong. Good luck let us know for curiosity sake.

Wow. I used to get around 10-12 for awhile, then we changed my filters and opened up the air flow a bit. Check the filter in the bottom right of your engine bay under the cylinder shaped plastic thing (no, i don't know what its called) mine was clogged as hell and that screwed up the mileage a lot. I recently put some of that restore stuff in at my last oil change and that helped get about 4-5 more mpg than before. Now I'm running about 19-20, a little better on the highway. Oh, and I run a stock 305 with 170k miles, only "mod" is a k&n air filter with the lid flipped up. I highly suggest you check all filters, get a major tune up, and just for kicks pour some of that Restore stuff in during your next oil change.

I'm with everybody else in saying that something is wrong. You're getting equal fuel mileage to my '76 Sprint with Buick 455 with 400+hp. And I don't drive like a little old lady either. If I truely baby it on the highway with a steady cruise speed of 75mph I can manage 14-15mpg.

Something is dreadfully wrong for that 305 to get such bad gas mileage. With the 305 that came in my 86, I got about 19 on the road and 16 when towing my boat trailer through the Smokey mountains. If you cannot find the problem, get to a competent mechanic quickly. The savings will quickly pay for the visit.

I,ve got a warmed over 350 in an 1979 and with mostly stop and go traffic I still get 12-14 mpg.

Sexy84,

One...Are you sure you are not driving a 1969 Hemi Roadrunner!
Two...Is your neighbor claiming to get over 50 mpg's to a gallon? Better check to see if your neighbor is not sipping your gas out a night. lol

8O If I remember right, thats about the same gas mileage my buddy got in his 1970 SS 454 LS-6 Chevelle, with a 4 speed and 4.56 gears. That must be a really potent stock 305 you've got...just kidding, something is definately wrong...really wrong. Check for fuel leakage.

Yep, I agree with the others, you have a big problem somewhere!

Now I'll really hurt your feelings,

My 454/700R4/2.73 rear Elky gets 20mpg on the highway at 70-75mph!
