Hi, my name is Kyle Hitz, I am 16 and i live in Overland Park Kansas. I own a red and black 72 El Camino. I was wondering if there were any car clubs in my area. I am very interested in joining if so.

Heres a little info on my car: Right now my car's ~75-80% done. I am working on redoing the interior right now and cleaning up the motor area. Unfortunetly the car will be sent to get painted due to my car getting "keyed" at school. I am going to have it painted black and i am goin to shave off the badging on the sides and rear, and also the chrome trim along the body except for window/wheel well trim.

One last thing, does anyone know where I can get a chrome billet grill for my '72? Thanks.

Since you've got a '72, consider yourself lucky: there is an active group of Chevelle/El Camino owners called Mid-American Chevelles that you'd probably fall right into. They're affiliated with ACES, the national club which caters to '64-'72 Chevelles (the guy who heads ACES and co-hosts Hot Rod TV has been there every year). They do have a website, but I don't recall what it its address is. A web search should lead you to it.

I had thought about getting involved with them since I have an '87 I drive daily, and even checked out their annual show over the past few years out at the Great Mall in Olathe in early August. Because they're so heavily into the ACES thing, they kind of shun the 5th Generation owners (re. post-'77) - not totally, but enough to keep me from getting involved. Perhaps someone here on this list can prove me wrong.

I'm not aware of an El Camino-only group in KC. You may want to look at listings on the website for the Associated Car Clubs of Kansas City to see if there are other Chevy-based groups.
