okay lol ive been at these lower ball joints for about 3 hrs top ones were

np at all came right out after a couple whacks, but these stubborn lower

ball joints my god they r pressed in so tight. I've used a big big bolt and

tryd to press it out using a nut and backing it off to add pressure but that

was a no go,still stubborn, of course whackin it didnt work....any ideas on

how i can get these stubborn things out. its a 65 elky doin both sides.

please if you have any ideas or tips chime in and help a knuckle buster

out, hehe thanks in advance,
Abe.

i think they have a special tool for it, for '71 and higher the tool is a J-23742 don't know if it'll work on yours or what the conventional name is for that tool

 hope that helps

still basically at the same point on that lower ball but i sayd screw it for

today and went on to the passenger side.....guess what LOL!!

after unbolting the shock compressing the spring undoing the tie rod and

the ball joint the spindle wont come free from the top ball joint lol even

busted out the pry bar and recieved nothin. im thinkin about gettin a ball

joint presser from harbor frieght n visa around 40 bux so that will solve

my 1st prob but im puzzeled on why the bottom a arm didnt fall and shoot

that spring at me like its supposed to lol. btw chained up the spring so i

dont get a cuncussion.

thanks for the reply Tauric :D , any one else have suggestions? im stumped

thanks in advance, Abe.

BAll joint press is the best bet. The one that looks like a big C clamp with a hole in one end is wha I got.. You;d be surprised how quick it makes the job. I got mine at Harbor Freight too. Also picked up a couple of different sizes of tie rod/pitman arm separators. The work much better than a pickle fork and a lot less dramatic that the old hammer trick. I never liked that one but it works in a pinch.

BFH, hit the spindle right where the ball joint comes through. Hit it untill you can't swing the hammer. Most of the time it will "pop" after a few swings. I've had some at the wrecking yard that I had to take a break and come back to-they always break loose evntually. You need like a 48oz hammer. That little ball peen job wont work.

Glad my .02 was helpful. Isn't it a great feeling when you think the job is hopeless and suddenly it just all works out. Like some kind of adrenaline rush..

Good luck!

i grabbed a pipe, like 2-3" diameter put it over so it was touchin the outside of the ball joint but not the bolt and whacked away at the pipe oh yah i duct taped a big ass washer on top so i had more area to hit insted of tryin to whack the wall of the pipe.
