When to Tijunana Mexico this month, and saw some cool cars, Volks, Nissan etc. But this Chevrolet caught my attention. Looks familiar? 8O The older versions (2001-2002) were less "Corolla like"..wish I had my camera.

I was in Australia last month and it seemed that about every other vehicle was an el camino/ranchero type truck. They're manufactured by every company down there and they look good.

It looks ok, but I don't think I want that up here in the U.S.

That car is only a 1.8L four cylinder. If a new elky is made her, it should come with the LS1 V8 or at least a 4.4L V6

How about an optional 502 or 572 cubic inch big block? Now we're talking! 8) Tornado's blow! It looks like a toy RC car with the antenna stuck on the roof like that!

well first off, I think it is a crock of **** that Chevy won't bring us back one.
I love the lines of the Elk, good hot-rodding lines and functional cargo space.
NOT like these damn half beds that they expect us to buy.
the half beds are good for college girls and the parish choir.

I don't see moving anything bigger than a suit case in them.
and sure as hell not any drywall!

But on to point.

The tornado is a real world vehichle created with todays oil prices. I like it for what it is.

What I would like to see is the ability to drop in more power per owners desires. If I want to buy a 502 then I should be able to run it. to hell with the one car/engine only designs now being done by the factory(s).

technically they sort of did bring back the el camino(not really) in the chevy ssr. sporty little truck, but it costs way too much that's the only downside, unless u can afford it.

funny that you mention the SSR. I always had a dream of taking an old non-SS (maybe one I rescued from a boneyard, or a 6 cyl one, or something) and trying to make a convertible out it. I have played around with some ideas and talked to a few folks, and its frought with difficulties, but I think it could work.

At first I thought of doing in on a 3rd Gen, since thats my favorite gen, but the top supports the frame and so you would have to do serious mods to the frame before you could 'remove' the hardtop. On the other hand, this model provides the 'backseat' room necessary for the rag top to fold down into...

I thought of doing it to a 2nd Gen, as the roof is better in terms of removing it, but there is not sufficient room behind the seat for a top to fold down....

anyway, the SSR solved some of the curiosity for me, but not all. I think its something thats never been done, and if I had the right car, I might still try it...

i think i might have motivated GM to make the ssr....
cause sophomore year(2 years ago) my financial management class was supposed to write a letter to a company complaining or complimenting a product of theirs..
anyway.. i sent a letter to gm complimenting the el camino, and asking if they could bring it back, some how..
and about half a year ago the ssr started showin up
anyway that's my 2 cents :)
