honeslty i would go on ls1tech and look at the stickies for the ls1 swap. there is a wealth of info. but not gonna break it all down. there is too many variables. once you decide which route then i can answer any questons you have. have done both swaps and my preference is ls1.

For me doing the swap in my garage, with no welder or welding skills to modify the frame or oil pan, the LT1 was a lot easier. Motor mounts and stuff are just like the small block I pulled out. Plus I got a great deal on a complete donor package.

they make everything you need to swap ls1 in the cars now. GM sells a retrofit oil pan for 159 bucks now. i used a turck oil pan but hangs down a bit but did mine 3 years ago now. motor mount plates are 50-75 bucks now. now headers are made for the swap. i made mine from the old big block headers on my car at the time. tuning is a lot easier on ls1 not dealing with optispark.

LSX engine all the way. there is a reason GM only made the LT-1/4 motor for 6 years. They had problems with the optispark, and the water pumps. When I had my '96 SS camaro, the dealer used to tell me "You are just one leaky water pump away from needing a new motor..." He was right too; Sprang a leak at 26,000 miles and got my motor replaced under warranty.
