What causes the choke warning light to come on intermittently? The choke seems to be opening properly and the old girl runs well, but the darn light keeps going on and off, most annoying.

Free, but some elbow grease: Check electrical connection where the spade terminal connects to the electric choke and at the oil pressure switch that furnishes 12 v. to the electric choke. That particular oil pressure switch is on the driver side, near the distributor and very close to the firewall. Tight fit!

Cost, but inexpensive: Replace that oil pressure switch. Tight fit! Use approx. 1 1/16" deep socket to remove.

My pressure switch failed and the light came on and stayed that way until I replaced the switch. If it is marginal, it could come and go.

Low oil pressure caused by a worn engine. Does it come on when you come to a stop and then go off when you accelerate?

An alternator going bad will also cause the choke to illuminate. Check charging system.

Connector to oil pressure switch was loose, cleaned, reconnected and now it's OK.

Just out of curiousity, why would the oil pressure switch cause the choke light to come on. Shouldn't it cause an oil pressure warning light to come on instead?

The oil pressure warning light in the dash gets its signal from an oil pressure sending unit in the engine's head. It is located near the front of the head on the driver side of the engine (v-8).
