: Belton look-outs and camera man needed!!!
DONE DEAL DONNY 03-06-2011, 04:35 AM Ya'll know I gotta toast old Woody and Lumpy in the burn out contest. Also others have said they wish to participate in it. The thing is besides not being able to do it in the park all these towns are needing money so I know they would love to bust us out of towers.
So I'm asking for volunteers, a couple to be look outs and someone to take video.
If you can and want to help you can P.M. me!!!
Thanks
Donny

rushgator 03-06-2011, 06:28 AM I would definitely recommend NOT doing it in the park, since it's real close to downtown (read: police station), and since this is such a nice location, we want to be invited back. Leaving a bunch of black "11's" in their parking lot would not be the best way to do it. Is there anyone local to Belton that can recommend a good empty parking lot, stretch of country road, etc., no more than 10 min from the show site for this? Maybe even an empty airport, dragstrip, vacant shopping center, etc.?
rushgator 03-06-2011, 06:40 AM I may have answered my own question. Look at what I found, just 12 miles from Belton: http://www.na-motorsports.com/Tracks/TX/TempleRaceway.html
DDD, why don't you give them a call and see if we could rent the track for say, an hour Saturday after the show? If the cost is reasonable, we could pass the hat for those who want to participate and/or watch the fireworks. Most of these small local strips are starving for positive cash flow, so they may be willing as long as it does not get in the way of their normal schedule.
1980SteelBeast 03-06-2011, 07:15 AM Hey Donny.I may participate if anyone wants to see a one tire fire or donuts!:nana2:
Terminator 03-06-2011, 09:38 AM I always carry my camera with me on trips just in case I see a UFO somewhere in the "boonies" or if I see some nice beach-going "boonies". You can dub me the Official Elky Camera Man.

Thanks Donny! It was a great night for the North Texas Elky Gang!
Harald K 03-06-2011, 02:53 PM I’m not familiar with the ways of you big city Dallas / Fort Worth types, but down here they don’t cotton to wild burnouts and lots of tire squallen. My son in law is a police officer for the city of Temple right next to Belton and while they are extremely friendly as long as car people behave and act responsibly, they don't play that.
The State police district office is less than one mile from the park with easy access straight down the frontage road.
The Belton county Jail can be seen from the park. As a matter of fact the park is kept clean usually by trustees from the jail.
The Belton police station is just across the creek even though you probably won’t see them come by to bother us I’m sure they will be well within ear shout or tire screech .
I strongly urge you to forgo the burnout idea unless you can get a track such as Little River drag way about 20 minutes from the park in Belton they have a test and tune drag on Friday nights. If you have the urge burn them off there. Your call but count me out got that out of my system some time ago . Harald K ( local yokel) :texas:
woody31 03-06-2011, 03:12 PM hmm dang party pooper:beer:
DONE DEAL DONNY 03-06-2011, 04:24 PM Let me repeat my statement from earlier, (we will not be doing burnouts at the park) I'm the one that talked to the park people and I assured them we were not a wild and crazy group (although some are questionable) however away from the park is open game. I don't wish to go to jail nor get anyone hurt. A few people are looking for a spot to have it. But just so you know Dallas will take you to jail just as quick hence the need for look outs.
So everyone can stop worrying about us trashing the park.
My name is out there as well as NECOA

rushgator 03-06-2011, 07:41 PM Now that you mention it, you're right...they do have your name DDD, not mine so....:driving:
BURNOUT!!!!
Just kiddin' DDD :poke:
So, what do you think about trying the dragstrip? Harald, I notice you mentioned it too. Is that a good place? By the map, it looks easy to get to.
Harald K 03-06-2011, 08:15 PM real easy to get to and very friendly to all makes and modles. Harald K :texas:
rushgator 03-07-2011, 07:04 AM That's good to know. Heck, if we can get the track for an hr. or two, it would be cool to have some Elky only drags. That we we can find out if Lumpy & Woody can hunt, or see if they belong on the porch! :poke:
kenrogers1 03-07-2011, 03:15 PM And, once more, disaster prevented through thoughtful insight. We hope this will be an annual event, and that we will be welcomed back. As an afterthought, the films would have been very helpful to who in ccourt? Thanks, gentlemen, for coming to the only conclusion possible...................Ken  :texas:
centex396 03-07-2011, 03:24 PM The city of Belton is already putting up our group picture.

DONE DEAL DONNY 03-07-2011, 04:32 PM So whats the name of this drag strip?
Donny
Harald K 03-07-2011, 06:34 PM http://www.littleriverdragway.net/ Little River Dragway. It is an 1/8 mile strip pretty popular in this area. it is on highway 95 just a mile of so south of Academy. You can’t miss it Harald K :texas:
