Hey all,

If putting in a 350 motor in my 84 Elky will cause problems with my stock tranny (TH250)......can I, or should I, have it rebuilt to handle the motor or will it be okay? I'm not racing this car or anything so it doesn't have to be overbuilt.

If I need to replace the tranny, will a 700r4 fit with the crossmember?

What do I need to reconnect to the transmission if I'm replacing the motor/carb,dist., and no longer using the computer?

I've read a bunch of the posts but am a little confused.

Thanks

jd

any parts and questions can be handled at dr700r4@700r4.com

I was going to put a 700r4 into my '85 but had it stolen while in storage.

Depending on the HP that is coming out of that 350, you may want it rebuilt to handle a high HP 350. If it's nothing too outrageous, you should be fine.

That TH250 was strictly a low torque trans and behind any kind of 350 smallblock it's days would be numbered. A TH350 will bolt right in with no mods. A TH700R4 needs new crossmember and shortened driveshaft. A TH200R4 needs a new crossmember. Any of these trans would be a good swap--the four speeds prefable but way more expensive.

Oops, excuse me. When i saw the TH250 I was thinking of the 200r4.
Yeah, Mrapii is right the TH250 wouldn't hold up, but a re/well built 200r4 would work.
