I have a 86 tpi 350 that im trying to put some aluminum valve covers on, there is only one opening for a breather in each cover. I was told by several people that the pcv valve could be bypassed using a small breather and putting breathers in each of the ports so that pressure does not build up now Ive got a check engine light on can the tpi function with out the pcv valve its really ugly and im trying to show the car any info will be greatly appreciated I also want to remove the smog tubes from exhaust manifolds will this effect its performance.Thanks

The PCV is a "controlled vacuum leak" and the system is tuned to allow for it. That might not be your problem but it is a thought. I would want a PCV working anyway.

My 83 EL Camino is set up pretty much the way you are planning for yours with the TPI my PVC is in the left valve cover and a breather is in the right. I have been running it that way for well over four years without problems. The PVC connects to a port on the left side of the lower manifold and if you have not caped that port you will have a serious vacuum leak which can cause a check engine light. I urge you to get a scanner if your going to continue to run a fuel injection system. You might start by disconnecting the battery for a couple of minutes to clear the code if the light comes back after you run it you will need to scan the engine a shot gun approach to trouble shooting can cause you more problems than you have now. You can us the check engine light to read codes too but a scanner for the OBD I system are plentiful and real cheap now days check e-bay. Lastly the PVC more than anything is used to control internal engine pressure so eliminating the PVC even with the valve cover breathers is asking for more oil blow by and leaks. If you are worried about the look get an PVC cover with a steel braided line and it will look great.
