Sorry I don't know car terminology, but the red arrow part is rubbing against the frame when I turn (circled). The pic is facing the front driver side suspension.http://hometown.aol.com/araix2/myhomepage/dsc00589.jpg
The oil change guy said the suspensions coils need to be replaced. Will that fix the problem?, 84 el camino.
Thanx a bunch!

Allen. I am not sure, but that part looks like the "idler arm" in regards to your front suspension. I don't believe changing the coil springs will help that at all.
I'm sure there are others on this forum that will correct and advise you.
Only thing I can think of is that the steering box has been swapped out and the pitman arm is too long. The length of my 81 and 82 is 6 1/4 measured, center of large hole to center of the small hole. Of course you've checked that the steering box isn't loose. Rare, but possible, if it was swapped out. Hope this helps, and maybe someone else can come up with something else I've missed.

Took me a while to get oriented with the photo till I recognized part of the A-arm.
Question- Does it rub no matter what direction you turn the wheel or only one direction.
Also, Does it rub only at full lock ( steering wheel wont turn any further) or other times other than that.
How is the car handling, any other symptoms like noises when you turn other than power steering pump noises??
I think we need a bit more info. Think about it for a bit even if it doesn't seem important. Things like noise from the front end when you go over a pothole. Stuff like that.

Funny thing, the mechanic showed me on the rack when he turned the steering wheel side to side but it never had any contact with the frame, he said it was because the suspension was hanging down. The car's handling is great, absolutely no noise when steering. I've done a little research on the web, and the arrow does point to an "idler arm".
It kinda makes sense that the springs are bad, because if the car sat a little higher the frame would sit up and the idler arm will clear. I'll keep you posted if I repair it. Thanks :)

The arrow is pointing to the end of the centerlink, the idler arm is on the pass side of the frame. My guess would be a combo of things, mostly I'd guess the centerlink is worn and has some play in it. That would explain why it isn't always hitting the frame. With the front-end in the air try to quickly "shake" the front wheels side to side only an inch or two. Have someone watch all the joints in the linkage, I'll bet you find some movement-NO MOVEMENT IS ACCEPTABLE. Nothing in that linkage should have any visable looseness at all. If it does change suspect parts.
