My 1983 Elky, just like my 1978 model, apparently now has a dead speedometer. For a while it went wild and finally settled down. Now it does not read the speed at all. I presume this means a broken cable. Any ideas on best source for an affordable replacement and opinions about what the problem is. Thanks

I bought the last one I needed for my 66 from Carquest, If I remember correctly it was less than 20 bucks (cable and housing) and they had it on the shelf. All the other parts stores wanted to order one for me. Disconnect the cable from the speedo take a friend for a short ride and see if the cable is turning. Mine was doing the same thing, went erratic for a short period then quit totally.
