: Self Adjusting Brake Dilemma

In the process of rebuilding my rear brakes I may have ended up with the self-adjusting assemblies being re-assembled on the opposite sides...(Left side on the Right, and Right side on the Left)

I read in a recent thread that if this happens you have a problem in that the brakes will constantly try to adjust every time you brake going forward and in short order everything will lock up !!!

If that is the case... Is there a way to visually inspect the assemblies to determine if they are on the correct side?

I just looked at one that I have here and it has an "R" on it just above where the spring goes between it and the inside of the shoe. I don't have the other one to see if it has an "L" on it but - - I'm thinking that it probably does. Remember right is passenger side.

There not going to lock up. I think the adjuster lever is going to spin the star wheel all the way lose, Intel the star wheel falls of into the brake hub. Doug

DOUG213XRJ is right, they will loosen, not tighten!

In any event you need to make sure the brakes are assembled correctly. Pull the star wheel off of the adjuster body. Usually there will be an "L" for left side or an "R" for right stamped on the end (clean off the grease). If they are in backwards, yes the brakes will loosen and pedal travel will increase. Get them on the correct side and enjoy cruising!
