If my information is correct 78 - 87 elkies use 26 spline 28.5 inch axles. My question is this: If i am to switch carrier to 28 spline can i use 29 inch gm axles? Since the axle bearing is not pressed on as in fords is my only concern the wheel offset? Has anyone done this?

The extra 1/2" will cause the brakes drums to be that much furthur away from the backing plate and the brake shoes will not contact the drum correctly.
