I know there are a lot of posts on this and I have read most of them. But still not getting too far and need some ideas. Before I started this project I had no dash lights, 1 Idiot light would light up, no turn signal indicator lights. Fuel gauge and spedo worked fine. And over head light worked.

What I have done:
Drop steering column and dropped dash
Had to replace cluster housing it was so brittle it fell apart
I have replaced Circuit board with new one
I have cleaned all bulb sockets and replaced all bulbs with new ones
I have replaced all fuses
I have made sure the ground wire attached to the light switch is connected.

Where I am at:
Ok so now I have still have no dash lights, or idiot lights, 1 working turn signal indicator, no fuel gauge, no overhead light

So after a buch of money and load of time I am now worse off :smileyb: Any thoughts?

Is the circuit film the right one? There are 2 types - one for idiot lights, and the second with the guages. I have an SS dash that I haven't yet installed. I've rebuilt the cluster and tested the lights... but nothing further. I haven't looked closely to see if the harness connector is rearranged between the 2 styles (my dash was from a Monte Carlo and had idiot lights).

Yes there are 2 types and the first one I got was for Gauges and had to return and get the warning light one. The plug pin outs are different between the 2.

The only thing I can think of then is if the harness plug is not making solid connection to the ribbon film.

So here is an update. I pulled out all the light connectors again from the cluster (the little quarter turn things). I took out all the bulbs and sanded all the connectors to remove any corrosion/oxidation from them. I now have the GEN light working and both signal indicators. Since these are working I am using them to test each of the other bulbs/connectors to make sure they all work. But this still did not fix TEMP and OIL light and I still have no dash or over head light. My main concern now is the fuel gauge and why it stopped working.

welcome B wtg
i was going to say check all the grounds,,which i would do any way,,just so i could say i did..:texas:

the power is all common on the temp, oil, and fuel,,its the gauge fuse..the purple wire..

the oil light should be on with the key on engine off,,but
i think the temp bulb check needs the ground from the ign.switch,,in the start position ??

did you find the wiring diagrams yet??

Thanks SSR71 and JJLT1 for all you comments. I am making progress I now have GEN, OIL and Fuel working and dash lights appear to be working will check when dark to see how well. I still don't have TEMP light which I never have seen work. Could the temp sensor be bad? I also do not have a dome light but I think this may be due to door switches.

Thanks again for all your help

BTW I see the (check all your grounds often) but where are they located?

wtg

did you move the key to start,,and see if it comes on??

if you have a helper?? have them watch the light,,with the key on,,
and ground the temp. wire to the block for just a second or 2..
the temp switch should be in the left side(driver side) head..green wire..

all that tells you is if the light works tho..

just about any black wires you see,,trace them out,,there probly grounds..

Thanks JJLT1
My test was by turning the key to the on position. I will try the grounding the green wire and see what happens. More to come

Ok grounded the wire and light came on so I at least know it works. It appears to be bad plug wiring I will have to replace it. Appreciate everyones help.
