Hello every one. I am currently 15 and just got a job about a few Months ago Around christmas. My dad in feburary had came home for me with..... Guess what.... An 1982 El Camino Conquista. It belonged to some old lady. Like Her husband died 10 years ago and the car has been garage kept ever since. :?
Well any im paying for it and just wondered if some one knows some Great CHEAP upgrade we can do to it. We just got it runnin like a week ago(needed new battery, cables, and few other things that went bad over sitting for 10 years lol)

Currenly we are repearing the car borator cuz it running a lil to rich. Also puting new air shocks on back to make the back rise up more plus the ones on there right now are broke anyway. Putting some nice 15s on them(if any one know where to get some nice wheels and tires CHEAP pls tell me) Also plan to put some sort of cowhood on there.

Also does any one else have like a tarp over the bed and the tarp like buttons to the side of the car?? i thought it was kinda strange.
Well any way if someone has some suggestions what to do to it or something that would look real cool Im open for suggestions. But cant go to expensive.

Welcome to ECC! The 78-87 GM G-body cars are very versatile, there are all kinds of aftermarket parts made for them by various companies. I think that you need to consider where you want to go with your Elky as far as appearence, performance, etc. I have found Ebay a good source for parts. I bought the wheels for my Elky off Ebay recently...among other things. Keep in mind your only limited by your imagination and of course $$$$$$$!!! Since your Elky is basically stock in appearance and performance, and the fact that it's been sitting for the past 10 years (low mileage?) I think I would work on putting it back to as original condition as possible. There's a lot to learn, and this is a good place to start!

I would replace or re-build the engine in the truck if it has actually been sitting for 10 years and not ran. It will go down hill so fast its not funny and you'll end up spending tons of cash to keep it going. Its not an opinion.

The engine and transmission both need to be re-build both have neoprene or rubber that has dried out and will go out soon "Especially if it has a THM 350! Horrible transmissions a real POS." I would put in a 350 SBC with a good mild cam and a decent intake and probably a 600 to 650 CFM carb, for you at 15 or 16 years of age. I would suggest that you install a 700R4 for the economy, a 15 year old doesn't generally have a lot of cash to spend on fuel for a high performance power plant. Yes, I am an old fart but the 350 ci can be built as you get better at driving and watching out for the other crazy people on the street and make more money. Something with 260 to 275 horses will out do any Ricer on the street and you probably will not kill yourself in it - hopefully.

Just my opinion.

yeah my dads planning putting a bigger engine in it any way soon. He got injured a while back and is just now recovering. Soo moneys deffinently a big issue at the moment. well actually to tell the truth i give him every one of my paychecks to put to the car. Soo i just paid it off. Sooo right now saveing for the new wheels and tires, cuz the one's on there are slick and the wheels are very nasty looking, not rust just i guess the didnt wash it b4 they stored it cuz the wheels got black stuff all over them and it wont come off. But any way we are planning to put a bigger engine in it. I think he said right now it only has a 250 but where gonna put a 350 in it.
any way like I said its all about the money right now. the faster my checks come in the faster the elky gettin fixed up.
