Another question on a stock 305 from my 84...

My water temp never gets above maybe 110-120....barely gets above the 100 line. Would that affect anything that the computer is trying to "correct"?

Hope this isn't a stupid question but I was curious as to why I'm getting such a low temp reading.

The engine should run between 180 and 210 for best performance, the transmission should be between 170 and 190 for best performance. Trans temps really are best at around 170 to 180 if you can manage that.

If your engine is running too cool then the thermostat is bad, gone or the wrong temp and yes it will effect the performance overall and give the computer a reading that is too cool and it will try to adjust the air/fuel to compensate.

190 is optimum for the engine.

I would first try getting the car hot and takeing a temp. prob to check and see if it is your gauge first.....if not replace the thermostat to the factory specs. I can only guess the car needs to go throuh a smog check if so and your temp is lower than normarl it will afect the computer.....letting it get more fuel than it needs. try these, hope it not major LOL
