It's going to be a tough task getting the El Caminos registered when all arrive at the Belton park. I'm going to ask for everyone's cooperation in searching out the registration desk located under the main pavilion - the one located adjacent to the restrooms. I'll need some volunteers to help with the registration, car parking, and totaling the votes after the judging. I would like for at least 5 to 6 members to meet me at the park around 9 am on the day of the show. I also need for the entire group to help in policing the area before we leave - a $100.00 deposit return is based upon us leaving the property in the same, or better, condition than we started.

Car show registration will begin at 10 am. Judging, by the members of the NECOA in attendance, will be from 12 until 2 pm, and awards will be presented at 4 pm. There will be a total of 16 trophies, with top awards for Best in Show, Best Paint, Best Interior, and Best Engine, and 6 judged classes each with a 1st and 2nd place. Additional, recognition will be given to 3 additional members who will be given plaques for their accomplishments. The member travelling the farthest to attend, and driving their elky the entire way, will be awarded a $25 or $50.00 gas card to help offset their expenses.

One trophy for each "Best of" winner
Best of Show
Best Paint
Best Engine
Best Interior

6 Classes with 1st & 2nd
Gens 1, 2, & 4 – Stock
Gens 1, 2, & 4 - Modified
Gen 3 – Stock
Gen 3 - Modified
Gen 5 – Stock
Gen 5 - Modified
For the purposes of this Show, "modified" will be defined as a vehicle with 3 or more alterations from showroom stock, or any alteration(s) that changes the outward appearance from that of a showroom stock vehicle. I believe that this definition is very similar to that criteria used for most major car shows around the country. Any disagreements with how a member's vehicle is classified will be referred to a committee appointed by the State Director and Deputy State Director. Classifications made by that body will be final.

Other Recognition
Most likely to offend the neighbors
Banned by the Neighborhood Association
Held together by Bondo & baling wire

Travel Award (Amount to be based on total donations, which pretty much dried up 3 or 4 days after Donny's post. If you can afford to make your donation now, it would be greatly appreciated so that definitive plans can be made. The expenses are mounting.)...............Ken  :texas:

Thanks, Jay. I would love to have your and Lenny's elkys down here. The public deserves to see the best possible examples of our association's vehicles, and I can't think of two better examples than those. The problem is, I think the Texas members would see through the cardboard cutouts, and probably would tar & feather me as a result. That would have been alright back in the cold weather, but we're in the 90's now.

Kidding aside, I think that within the next 2 to 3 years, we should start to plan a meeting somewhere mid-point between the Regions 6 & 13, inviting all members in the surrounding areas also. We probably could pull 50 to 100 members out of the bogs and swamps near the coastal area, and from the entire southeast. It's certainly worth a try

The video was a great touch in recording the vehicles! I'll try to find a Texas member with the equipment to do that in Belton...................Ken

Any members who wish to help with the set up on Saturday morning can meet me at the park at 9 am on May 14th. There are many tasks, both large and small, that will require some grunt work. For those members who live close to the park, please let me know if you're willing to help out.

We have decided to adopt Fixitman's suggestion regarding those who send in their "donations" in advance. Those members will be considered Pre-Registered, saving them the time required to fill out the registration forms on the morning of the event.

I've noticed that PayPal is charging me a $0.59 fee for some of the $10.00 transfers, and charging nothing for others. Does any member know what the difference is - something about what the payment is for, I'd guess. If we can use a payment type that does not charge a fee, we would be much better off.

Would the members making their donation through PayPal PLEASE note their ECC/NECOA user name in the comments field. I can't match up all the names 'cause I still don't know all the members. If fact, can somebody tell me Brandon Johnson's user name?.....................Ken

My car isnt held together by bondo or bailing wire nor does it have a good paintjob. Its all under the hood so would it go under modified even though there's no modifications to the body/appearance?

Arent they all "project" cars? Some are just a little further along than others. I know that the more I do, the more I want to do. I dont really think it ever ends, till you sell it.:texas:

I think a member here once said it this way: "I never had a car that was finished, unless it was totalled." Well said.

The award winners from the 1st Texas Invitational will be identified as soon as the votes are counted and the results are certified or canvassed (I don't know what "canvassed" means, but it sounds so official when they say that after the November votes!). What I really mean is that I don't have the list - but I think I know where it is, and I'm waiting for it before I can name the winners. Please bear with me!.............Ken

Will all of the members who read this post please go to http://forums.coolridesonline.net/showthread.php?t=712 and vote for Jay's El Camino. PLEASE! We need to get him caught up and ahead.................Ken
A Note: I just found that it is very much easier to find the voting poll by first joining the Cool Rides as a member, then closing that page entirely by x-ing it out at the extreme upper right of your screen. Now come back to this Thread's message and click on the URL once more. This will now take you directly to the voting sheet - very easy. Thanks!

Now for the Awards!

I have, at long last, discovered the missing list of award winners in a box of other Belton documents. For those not at Belton, let me explain about the prizes and giveaways that were given out aside from the awards. We had boxes of hats, T-shirts, and other goodies furnished by our everyday suppliers of El Camino parts and supplies. However, there was one supplier that was very conspicuous by it's failure to respond to multiple messages. This was quite a shock, because we, as the largest El Camino association in the world, and quite possibly the fastest growing automobile club in the world probably provide a large part of their revenue flow. I know that I have, in the past. I won't mention names, but the ... Store was recently bought out by a national chain, and the service has deteriorated rapidly. With the two most prominent names in our association title also included in the name of their store, they simply ignored us.

Now, having gotten that issue off of my agenda, let me get on with the business of acknowledging those individual who brought out some of the finest looking automobiles that have ever gathered for the inspection of, and recognition by, their peers. I'm speaking of the 72 owners who brought their Elkies and Sprints to Belton last Saturday, the 14th. Out of those 72, 14 were deemed worthy of special recognition. They were selected as follows:

Best in Show: Ken Rogers 1968 El Camino SS-396

Best Paint: Bill Hunter (bills1hot64)

Best Interior: Tie, Gregg Taylor (tsunamigregg)
and Curt Johns (curtjohns)

Best Engine: Jim Meader (biggjimm)

Class 1A: Winner - Derek Mayfield (Shiner2001)
Second - Norman Morrison (Norm1969)

Class 1B: Winner - Curt Johns (curtjohns)
Second - Carol Silvermell (non-member)

Class 2A: Winner - Ken Rogers (kenrogers1)
Second - John Vore (ElCameeeno)

Class 2B: Winner - Jim Meader (biggjimm)
Second - Paul Edwards (pauledwards)

Class 3A: Winner - Wilber Floyd (WWF)
Second - Dave Burgess (dirtydaveirvine)

Class 3B: Winner - Bud Hallmark (SsUpPoErEt)
Second - Gregg Taylor (tsunamigregg)

Most likely to Offend the Neighbors: Jake Prior (MrCryptic)

Held Together by Baling Wire and Bondo: Jake Prior (MrCryptic)

Banned by the Neighborhood Association: Jake Prior (MrCryptic)

Just as a reminder, the classes were separated as follows:

Class 1A: Generations 1, 2, & 4 – Stock
Class 2B: Generations 1, 2, & 4 – Modified

Class 2A: 3rd Generation – Stock
Class 2B: 3rd Generation – Modified

Class 3A: 5th Generation – Stock
Class 3B: 5th Generation - Modified

Generations are as Follows:
1st: 1959 & 1960
2nd: 1964 through 1967
3rd: 1968 through 1972
4th: 1973 through 1977

KEN your are a promotor and a half, many thanks for the requests to vote for the ride.

More important congrates on your "Best of Show" and "CLass" win for the 68, congrates to all of the other winners in a field of Camino's. Ken came to one of our small meetings in Florida and was on the board in Florida also so that says something for his great Cruck.
