Does anyone have a photo they could post of a 1970 NON-A/C "SS" dash ???...I 'm specifically looking at the areas of the dash which would contain the A/C vents if it were a car with the A/C...My reason for asking is because I'm replacing my original "sweep-style-speedo" dash with an SS dash and the SS dash I'm using was from an A/C equipped Monte Carlo. My camino does not have A/C, so I'm wondering if there was a sort of "block-off" plate or bezel for these vent areas for the non-A/C cars. Any input would be greatly appreciated since the dash is the next thing to go in on my current project.

...These are the vents I'm concerned with...Do they stay, or do they go ?

...I think these ducts/grilles in the dash do stay, even for the non-A/C models, but I'm not sure where they get ducted to. I checked my factory assembly manual, but it doesn't seem to be too clear on where the ducting from these ducts/grilles would get attached to. You gotta' understand that it's been 20 years since I originally took this thing apart ! Another question I have is the following: Is there some type of "connector" that actually joins the plastic Y-shaped defroster duct to the top of the heater-box ? When I put mine in, the lower end of the duct is still an inch or two above the louvered top opening in the heater-box where the defrost air comes out of. PLEASE HELP !

The side vent bezels are attached to the ducting tube that is operated by the upper vent pull in your kick panels. AC dash bezels attach to the existing ducting for your 'Astro Ventilation' which is the upper vent pull.

I did the same swap in my heater only 71.

Don't know about the side vents but there is a block off/delete plate for the center vent. I didn't realize they were all molded in until i had my original sweep dash apart. I was going to just put all dummy vents (not hooked up) in until I realized i'd have to move my dash speakers as both the speakers and center vent wouldn't fit AND also get a new dash pad as the speaker holes would no longer line up.

I then decided on a center delete plate and dummy side vents. I found an original delete plate on eb@y but there's a seller on eb@y who makes them. They weren't available from the repro houses when i was looking.

I think if you want the all vents functional, you'd need to swap out the heater control unit and the heater box behind the dash but i'm not sure.

PLEASE, Guys...I'm in serious need of your help here !!!...If I could just find these "adapters" (circled in red on the below pic), I'm sure that I could cut some appropriate sized holes in the kick panel area of the cowl/firewall on both sides and have functional non-A/C "ASTRO-VENTILATION" as it would have come from the factory. If I'm able to find these "adapters", I'd only have to purchase the dual-vent-pull kick panels and I'd be able to get this dash back in and move on to the next step of the restoration ! Apparently my '70 Elkie had only the base level ventilation package from the factory and I need those adapters to convert it to the "upper-level ventilation" package, aka: Astro-Ventilation. If anyone has these adapters and/or knows of anywhere that I could find them, PLEASE contact me ! I've been searching high and low on-line, but cannot find them anywhere.

WOO-HOO...I got 'em...It wasn't easy, but at least it's now onto the next step. Ended up spending 4 hours in a local junkyard, and managed to find only one vehicle with the correct "Astro-Ventilation" flapper valves ! Actually ended up taking home two torched off 40 pound sections of the cowl/kick-panel area for the two of those measly 1-1/2 ounce parts. Got home with the chunks of metal and spent a good 4 hours separating those pesky little valves from their old home. They're not yet lookin' too pretty, but tomorrow's another day !
