Drool 8O I'd love to have one of those, hopefully the GTO sells good so they might consider bringing the utes over.

Excuse my ignorance, but I was unaware of any ElCamino's being made anywhere. Is this really called an ElCamino, and if so where is it sold? I thought the SSR was cool, but this is much cooler. I want one, or two!

Jezze! I thought it was an ugly POS from that view, but then I seen this view.

I like it!

Side view shows that the proportions are a little off on the roof. Chop the roof a couple of inches and it would look great. If the GTO does well, I would not be surpried to see an Elky comeback based on the Holden Ute.

That supercharger can't be factory... Looks too good! :)

See what I mean about GM screwing up with the SSR. Be a lot cheaper to bring this thing over. And I bet it wouldn't take a second mortgage to buy it either.

The looks are a compromise, but the SSR is definitely beyond my budget. I have been pushing this idea under a seperate topic, "I Want a New El Camino", and this may be as good as it gets. Do you suppose that GM monitors this Forum, wish they did.
I would like to see a plain jane model, as everyone can add his own personality to the base model, and some of us might just like the understated entry level model, at an affordable price. Those would wait until all the "high end guys" pay full sticker to be first to have one.
Hey, write GM, ask them to send some over, and be prepared to pony up the dollars when they arrive. I am guessing at about $25,000 plus extras. The V-6 I am told is a 3.8 liter with supercharger optional. I would wait a couple of years to allow demand to quiet down, and maybe buy used or a demo.

Does it have "MADE IN AMERICA" stamped anywhere on it? Nope! Call it whatever you want...but don't call it an El Camino! Like I've said before, what's next Korean Korvettes?

I agree with the factory. They shouldn't be bringing back old cars. They crap them up with fuel injection and plastic. It takes away from the nostalgicity of the car.

Gawd forbid that they ever build the Fifth generation Elky again, much as I like mine. However, I think that the reasons some of us bought new ones way back when are still compelling reasons to produce a newer model. The Holden looks quite acceptable to me. It would produce the car-like ride and seating height I prefer, reasonable fuel economy with a modern fuel injected engine (3.8 liter six is fine) and looks that say El Camino.

I am asking a friend of mine in Melbourne to test drive a 2004 Holden ute for this site. It could potentially be the next El Camino. This will occur in a couple of weeks. He has agreed to do this. Any particular questions you want me to present to him before he does this? I wonder what the sticker price is, myself.

I like to buy American products too, but the fact is that el caminos from 82 through 88 were built in Mexico. The engine and tranny, and etc.., were made in in the U.S., but its just like the new GT0 that is assembled down under but the LS1 is american.

And whats wrong with fuel injection? do people not like to get better fuel economy with a high performance V8. And true the plastic doesn't look as good as nice thick Chrome bumpers, but the truth is plastic is a heck of lot cheaper to make, and is a fraction of the weight of metal.

Look at it this way. If you crash into someone, or get crashed into, your car is gone either way. You have a thin barrier of plastic, then some stryofoam, then a couple of mounting brackets. Then comes the large crunch zone. The crunch zone is what destroys your car. This leaves you with a huge bill to get it fixed, or you work for a really long time, then take it to a body shop to get it painted (unless you do that yourself). then colors don't match if you had only the damaged part painted.

As far as gas mileage is concerned, in the mid fifties, Nash created the Metropolitan. It ran on a 4 cylinder carbureted engine. Not to mention it was a total box, and it was all metal. It got around 55 mpg, and as it went into the late fifties, around 58 mpg.
